Stock Vs. Brock Gen 3 Weight It's been told before by many, but I'll tell it again. Weighed the stock exhaust. Each can weighed about 14.5 lbf. The headers weighed 9.4 lbf. Net weight = 38.4 lbf. The Brock/Hindle Gen 3 StreetSmart with carbon can weighed 7.8 lbf. All weights on the same
scale so the delta should be accurate even if the absolute weights for each part is a couple of tenths off. Weight savings with Brock system = 30.6 lbf. Doesn't included added weight of Power Commander for the nit pickers. Reused all the nuts also.

Yeah, I had no complaints. I'm not surprised by the weight of the stock cans. But the weight of the stock headers shocked me. They're beefy. The thin-wall high strength steel in Brocks headers (and probably Muzzy's as well) is very light weight.

The only thing I think you're gonna find, is that the headers are going to generate more heat due to the thinner walls...and that heat will just mean more heat on your legs...
However, the gains and sound will more than make up for that...
That's what happened on my 10R, but now, that bike always wants to spin the tire or just wheelie...so that made me really happy!

Actually I haven't felt anymore heat on the legs, and it was 94 deg here in CT today. I was worried that it would throw more heat into the radiator but that doesn't seem to be an issue. The bike does run cooler than it used to and its noticeable on the temp meter.

Actually , no change in heat dissipation to rider IMO.
The engine seems to run cooler, with less backpressure and richer mixture at cruise rpm with brocks map.

Seems the 14 engine should run cooler as a result of losing the catalytic converter (that are designed to be hot) in the diesel truck smokestacks. I'm looking forward to pulling the trigger on an order for a new exhaust and PC!

Just to clear up the temp issue on my bike. It used to run one bar above center at any speed below 55 mph. Above 55 it ran with the top of the temp indicator bar touching center. After installing the exhaust and PC it now runs with the temp indicator top touching center in 30 mph traffic. Going below 30 and the temp gauge goes up a bar again. Sitting at a traffic light and it still goes to one bar below H. Never has hit H yet. Is that clear as mud?

Yeah, I was wondering about the heat tape. Heard good and bad. I have a carbon can and don't want to pass to much heat down the rear. I may ask Brock for his comments on heat tape.

You may want to check with your aftermarket exhaust manufacture first. Many will void any warranty claims (exhaust) if you wrap the headers heat tape.

Thanks. Burning the can was one of my worries. Damaging the thin walled tubing of the aftermarket headers was another. Guess I'll skip the wrapping. Don't really have a heat problem that I can rightfully complain about anyway.

I think the best way to go would be jet hot or similiar. Wouldn't cause problems with the pipes, but that still wouldn't work with the carbon can. Best to leave it alone imo.

engine heat Raptor have you replaced the glycol or added watter wetter or a similar product to you're cooling system? I am still running stock exhaust system (waiting on ZX-14 power commander and gen 3 pipe from Brock). I went to straight distilled water and water wetter for the summer. I had similar temp. guage readings to yours before going to straight distilled water with water wetter. My bike would run one bar above the center mark at anything below 50 MPH. Now it is running at the center mark or below unless stopped in traffic. I expect engine temperature will get better with new pipe and power commander due to elimination of cat and air injection.

After you put them on a picture host. right click the pic you want to post, choose properties, the pic address will be given , copy it,
[
img]put address here[/img]
you need to put the copied address in between the bracketed img and /img , no spaces.
I purposely displaced the first bracket in the example otherwise you can't read the example.

johns - I have a mixture a water, ethylene glycol, and water wetter in the radiator. About 2/3 of the bottle of water wetter. It never made a difference in the way my temp meter responded. Ran the same as it did before. The only difference I've seen was when I got rid of the stock exhaust system.
htosado - I've had titanium cans and mid-pipes on other bikes and never had a problem. This is my first carbon can. Personally I think titanium is more durable. Don't know about titanium headers though as I've never had them.
