Another DFW TX RED 14

Sold the ZRX1200r 5 weeks ago, only 2 days after putting a deposit on a RED 14.
I've been bikeless for 5 weeks and that's been an eternity.
Been lurking here just about since the beginning, so I've learned a lot about the bike over the months before taking delivery.
Got the call late yesterday from the dealer and rode it the 40 miles home.
Took some time off today and went riding, even though the temp was around triple digits and put another 100 + miles, mixed city, highway, and twisties.
My short review: WOW!!!
The long version:
1. I was worried about the heat, both for the engine running hot and the heat on the rider's legs. IMHO, not that big of a deal.
2. Worried about the lack of low-end torque. I found this lever down by my left foot - I forget what you call it - and if you pull in on the clutch and press down 2 or 3 times, then move your right wrist a little, low-end torque is just a memory.
3. Wind protection was especially important for me, after having the ZRX for 3 years, where the turbulence tried to rip my head off at times. On the ZX-14, with me being 6 ft. tall, I get wind on the helmet in the "normal" riding position, but it is clean air.
4. Grooved pavement - with the ZX-14, I couldn't tell it was there.
5. Twisties. I'm still scrubbing the tires in and getting used to the bike, but it feels really stable and predictable, with what little I did.
6. Front brakes - been discussed plenty, and I agree - awesome!
7. Rear brake - weak? It SHOULD BE! I use both brakes, and I know a lot of people never touch the rear, but I always thought the rear brake on the ZRX was weak until I locked the rear wheel on a slick street (dry, so I only knew this after the fact) in a slow turn into a parking lot and just managed to save it.
8. My personal preference is RED. This is a beautiful RED!
9. So you think it's ugly? You're entitled to your opinion and should be easy to get past - go buy something else and post on another board. I love the looks from the front, from the back, from the side, from the seat.
10. Worried about the new more powerful 2015 Busa? I'm not. There will always be newer more powerful bikes (unless the gov't intervenes). It's gonna take me awhile to get all the goody out of this one.
Did I mention that it's RED?

Welcome!! But I think I beat you here with the first DFW red '14 on this list

Sounds like you really like the bike, and it only gets better. What part of the metroplex do you live in? I'm in Southern Tarrant County. Lemme know if you ever need a group to ride with - I ride with a group every 2nd and 4th Sunday, usually 200-300 miles, mostly Southwest of Fort Worth. We're not a bunch of squids either... mature riders who like to have fun.

I didn't mean to imply that mine was the first - far from it!
I'm east of Dallas, and I'll make it over that way for a ride sometime - sounds like fun..
"Mature"? I like that word. A guy at work asked me today if I bought the bike because I'm having a mid-life crisis. I told him no - that mid-life was a Loooong time ago!

This board is starting to "mature." (Must be the word of the day). Mosts of the posts are really good now. Earlier, I thought the trolls were going to take over, but it looks like they get put in their place quickly now.

I know - I was just kiddin' around. For what it's worth, I'm kind of surprised that there aren't more DFW area members. As far as I know it's just the two of us now.

Each metroplex dealer has received their 2nd and 3rd bikes now, so there should be a few more on the streets. I've only seen one other locally. It was a red one down in the Cresson/Granbury area.

Which dealer did you buy from? I picked mine up at Cycle Center of Denton.

Enjoy your new red 14. I turned down a black one and a blue one and waited another month so I could get red. Got 500 miles on the bike now (3 days of riding). Haven't had a heating problem yet. Temp gage has never gone beyond the 4th mark. Highest ambient temp has been 80 but I've been stuck in non-moving traffic for 10 minutes. I love the bike and my impression is very similar to yours. Again, enjoy and ride safe.

Hey zerMatt, just want to say hi from Richcraft we also have a red 14 in the DFW area south of Dallas. We are going to Kennedale Friday night, we were out last Friday night and run 6.18 @ 118 mods strapped lowered brock pipe. We were the ones that Pilgrim
posted that would only run 6.80. Amazing what a few mods do. Anyway just wanted to say hi and let you know we were around. My son rides the bike at the races. He weighs 180.

I did the same. Nearly "settled" for the black, cause it looks good.
Also turned down a blue, even though I love that shade of blue.
In the end, I got that color that I had a "passion" for.......................

Well, I guess there are 3 now!
Bought mine at Kawasaki City Irving. They have some smokin' deals there.
We'll have to go watch RichCraft's bike at Kennedale sometime.

Kennedale sounds like fun. Pilgrim and his gang was going on Wednesdays or Thursdays, but I never made it out there with him - Friday sounds better to me. I'm sure it's more crowded, but that makes it more fun, right?

Richcraft - glad to hear that you've got those times dialed in, I'm sure getting more seat time makes a big difference too. Do you think there's more in it than 6.18 with it's current level of mods? Did you only do a pipe, or have you also done a PC or any ignition work?
