It all depends on what you are buying the suit for.

If it's your weekend ride in the mountains suit, try taking a shit in a public bathroom with a one piece and you might change your mind real quick about the practicality of that (unless you don't mind wearing leathers dipped in 20 guy's piss).

For ultimate protection a one piece is definitely tops, and for sure track attire, but they do have some practicality issues for day to day stuff.

I have never been the type of guy to push beyond my limits and ride conservatively within my limits.
I'm willing to lose before laying it down....

That said for drag racing and road use a 2 piece seems to fit my bill.
How about sizing though?

Anything that is comfortable through the shoulders is always way to big in the waist, and way too long.

Icon is for horse jockeys, even the 3xl was skin tight, even my forarms were tight.
Joe rocket seemed quite small, alpine stars not bad...

I think I will want to mix and match the bottoms and top.
xxl ot xxxl top, and xl pants.

Any suggestions...?
any particular brand that fits stocky short guys better?

I'm 5-8, 32 inseam, 32 waist 46-48 chest and 190 lbs.
Anyone else around my sizes with any luck?

I used to wear a two piece while drag racing back in the late 80's. It only had about an 8" zipper on the back for the jacket to attach to the pants. I hit a car driveline on the race track at night while racing, just before the speed trap. I slid through on my head and then my ass at 143 mph. I was sore for a few days, but no injuries. The zipper in the back held no problem. Had a small tear sewn up on the pants, and was racing a borrowed scooter the next week(I was in the points series, and didn't want to lose any points).
Point is, 2 piece is just fine. I've never, ever, heard of one coming apart in a crash. Road racers wear one piece suits because they get them for free, and don't care. Race racer wannabe's get one piece suits because the pro's have them, and they fall off a lot and don't get hurt, so that's what they want. Trust me, if they, the pro's were wearing 2 piece suits, they would come away from a crash the same as with a 2 piece suit.
Then all the squids would want 2 piece. Two piece suit is just way more pratical. For anybody that has done any serious drag racing, you want to be able to pull off the jacket in the pits. I wear shorts under the pants and take those off too. At some races, it can be 2 hours before your next pass. Do you wanna run around the pits in a one piece with it just hanging tied around your waste??

Check out Frank Thomas Leathers [the set I bought] at Cycle Gear;1-2 piece suits. 350.00-600.00 [ after negotiating ]. They are sized small but better for shorter, stockier.
Last week they had a close out brand on sale for a 100.00 less that those.
Having the right gear for me improves my enjoyment , oddly even my riding skills. Comfort/confidence factor maybe?
With me it's not about exceeding my limits. It's about being protected/safe.
Like riding when my chain/tires whatever need attention, adjustment. Just no fun for me.

There are 2 Cycle Gear locations in Houston. They might be nationwide. Home might be Cali.
They carry Frank Thomas.
