zx14 horsepower and torque

hey guys, am i missing something here, factory said the horsepower to the crank estimated about 200 horse and torque of 113. so you are looking about 180 horse in rear wheele. we have had three top magazine test ride the zx14 but no mention of what a horsepower or torque are. and some of you guys said is about 168 horses. i am lost , what is the actual horsepower of stock zx14.

Motor Cycle News (UK) measured their test bike at 168.4 rear wheel horse power and 91ftlb of Torque. For comparison, the best figure I have seen for a standard Hayabusa is 164bhp. That's real horse power, not "pub talk" horse power.
It's going to vary from bike to bike and dyno' to dyno. Seems like 170 is a ball-park figure.
I assume there is no ram-air effect on most dyno's.

thanks bobc. you are right about every bike is different and each dyno varies. i guess the factory figure this out probably based on ram air.

Factory says 187hp without ram air and 197 with ram air, subtract 10% for drive train loss and you are in the ball park on hp and torque for what most have been seeing.

Busa's (most of them) make 151-155 SAE on the Dyno...pure stock, 164 might be in STD with basic mod's...Mine was 152...and after PC3, Airbox mod, K&N, and RS3 slip-on's, it made 168.5 and 102.1...best run ever was at 171 and 103...so I don't buy 164 out of the crate...3 buddies of mine also ran Dyno's a month out of the crate and made around 152 or so on the average. No way 164 when the crank is 175...most Busa owners like to make claims like that, but are fulla shit...no offence Bobc...I've had 2 of them and both were the same...2000 and 2004. Ram air HP boost has no effect on a Dyno, at least not on any Dyno I've ever seen. Maybe the CDN bikes are lower from factory .

Possibly, but lot's of shops use STD printouts on the Dyno's...and that's bullshit...should be SAE.

My busa stock SAE at dynojet did 158.4 stock 97 foots pounds torque. With stage one cams, Brocks pipe, PC3 it made 180 hp and 105 foot pounds torque.

many varriables when figureing hp. Ambient temp, temp of the bike, break in process, dyno, whoes dynoing, elevation, ect. I also read 187w/o ram air and 196 with ram air effect. All I know is the zx-14 and the Busa are two bad ass bikes and demand respect all day!!

Well here's the nitty gritty then: My 2003 bike made 157 stock. That's why I said best I had seen on a stock bike was 164bhp. This was a friends 2000 bike with about 12000 miles on the odometer. It had been sprinted for the last few seasons as a box-stocker, no mod's at all. It was run up on the Dynojet 250 dyno' at Gt Performance Engineering a couple of weeks ago to get the baseline figure before an Akrapovic and PC3 were fitted. We were quite surprised to see 164bhp. The dyno at GT is not known as an "optimistic" one either.

yup, seems that the aftermarket posts a host of different dyno graphs...some with SAE, but MOST with STD hp readings...as HP sells and STD is higher!!

I wish posting dyno graphs and or related posts were an automatic ban on message boards LOL!

Dyno numbers have to be one of the highest % of message board posts that will end up in some sort of flame war.

heh heh heh You guys should check out CorvetteForums, they got a quote from a GM insider who explained the new Z06 HP numbers. Seems they claim 505HP, but most dyno's are showing 450-460 RWHP. Doesnt jive, right? Since cars normally lose between 15-20% with a stickshift, more with a auto. He said that he can guarantee that the numbers listed by GM are correct. BUT: who said the engines peak power was at the listed RPM? lol Guess that game can swing both ways, right? So Blackmagic: your bike only makes 168HP if asked by a competitor, right?

Ya- you're Dyno and the guy who ran it --

-- that bike doesn't do anything close to 178 out of the crate. The Dyno numbers can be made to read whatever the operator wants...within reason.

187.5 at the crank without ram air, means with a drivetrain loss of only 10% (which is well under what the loss really is), comes to 170. The RWHP of a ZX14 is closer to 162-164...not 178. Dyno readings are nothing more than fiction and are only good for relative power comparisons for before and after mods, or same time bike to bike comp's. You're dreaming at 178...sorry to bust your bubble...

ya, who digs up these dumb old posts anyway?? They should just R.I.P...

It' was actually a good thing for us new guys on this site. I wouldn't have had the patience to sort thru all the posts.

By the way mine - bone stock was dyno'd Friday. 155 hp 97 ft/lbs. using SAE (2008 840 miles). A 2007 with slipon Muzzys 162hp - can't remember the torque was run later the same day. Temp 58 humidity 65 for mine, temp 68 humidity 46 for the 07.

something odd about those numbers my friend. First of all, make sure they sold you an '08, read it off the ID plate to be sure, up by the handlebars on the frame. Trust me, they will trick you. Hell, they tried with my '06 which I bought in July of '07. Was completely done when I noticed it said 2006 on the registration form. the other paperwork said 2007. I nearly walked out, but got another $1000 of the price, and those bikes are identical anyways.
