Removed rear fender, made a nice plate bracket

I wanted to get rid of that rear fender and other junk, but I also needed to keep strength because I plan on re-attaching the luggage hooks soon. I took a 2" piece of angle alumimum (1/8" thick) and hacked off the excess material, then bent the tabs a little. I think it came out pretty nice. It's not 100% complete yet, I plan on rounding the corners off one of these days...

Oh - and am I the only one with this plate so far?

Looks great Matt! I tried to order the same plate the day I took delivery. No luck....someone in California beat me to the punch.

Hey Matt Very sano job buddy!! Word to the wise take some time and buff those edges real smooth so it will be less likely to fatigue crack. Aluminum is great for that. Cracks will want to start in the corners right at the bend. Think I will make one for myself.

Thanks! Yeah, I really need to clean it up more. I only spent about two minutes with the die grinder using a cut-off wheel and small wire wheel to make things smooth, it could definitely use more work. I got a wire wheel for my bench grinder a while back, but I need some sort of spacer or adapter to make it work. Maybe I'll start with emory cloth or something. Once I get it all smoothed down, I'll probably shoot it with some eggshell black paint so it doesn't look quite so "home made"

Looks good bob, very clean.

I looked at kits like that, but $50 is WAAAAAY too expensive for a little piece of bent metal like this. That's why I made my own - didn't cost me a penny, but if I had to pay for the aluminum, it would have probably been less than $5. There are several places that sell that same sort of thing, mostly in the $50-range just like that shockracing place... I just don't understand why they have to charge so much for something so basic and generic.
