*lol* I think that, after 20+ years of sportbikes, starting with a '78 GS1000, I'm ready for a shaft drive. At least I didn't bail and buy a FJR. But it's tempting, let me tell ya.

Does anyone know what the chain Kawasaki has on the '14? After being out of biking for a number of years, I was amazed at how good modern chains are. I don't think I had to adjust the chain on my ZRX even once last year. I did keep it clened and lubed though.

I have heard the stock chain on 'Busas is crap. Has Kawasaki put a high end chain on the '14?

Fish, were you aware of much chain adjusting going on at the launch? All the 1/4 mile lauches would be hard on the chain. The clutch seems pretty bullet proof on the '14, what about the factory chain?

My current Suzuki 1200/S Bandit has an automated chain lubing system CLS-200
When you tension your chain, you add some oil to the reservoir
How about that, jimmy-boy?

My ZZR's got a 530 chain, I can't imagine the 14's got anything less. The literature only says "X-Ring Chain", which doesn't really tell us much except that it's at least somewhat newer technology.

The bike before my last Busa was an FJR...and though it's no ZX14 or a Busa, it's one hell of a bike that'll probably outrun a 14 to 50MPH or so...it won't outhandle one, but it's a rocket...with a zero to 60 of under 2.9 seconds. For all that weight, she moves quick and stays glued to the turns. That bike is a great all around machine and very comfortable to ride too...FJ's power wheelie at just 2K...thats how hard they launch!

Chains needs to be adjusted often when you ride hard. I do 35k KM's a year...go through at least 7 back tires and a good 10 or more chain adjusts...through the season, then have to change the chain at the end. Whether its on my 10, the R1, or my (now sold) Busa, it makes little diff. I suspect the 14 won't be any different either. I also wax it every 500km's and clean a few times though the season.

Oh and by the way...its FastestBuglyAround, not FastBuglyAround...lets get it right man!

Chain care, Well I'll call myself a expert in the care of chains, well I know more than I should. 3 facts no one can argue. 1. The first chain that comes with a bike is always the best chain, stronger than any aftermarket and normally lasts between 20-30,000 miles. 2. Front sprocket must be changed every time (my rear sprocket has 82,000 miles and is in fine shape). 3. Always error on the side of loose when adjusting your chain. Outside of that choice of lube is fine, I like dupont silicone blue bottle from Lowes but PJ1, Chain Wax all work as well. My Method is fairly simple but a bit of work. I clean the chain every 2-3 months with Mineral Sprits then wipe clean with gas station like napkin. Objective: lube the O-Rings, X-Rings or W-Rings not the actual chain itself. Adding lube to a dirty chain tends to open the Rings up to the elements wearing the life of the chain. After lubing you must remove the overspray, with napkin. I know it's a pain in the ass and I'm not an engineer I'm just a Schmuck who knows what works not so much why. And fastestbusaaround (or FBA if thats OK ) I live in a hick town with more cops than cars when I ride (5 AM) so yeppers I do ride like a Puss (here), and I put my foot down at stop signs too. Trust me if you lived here you would as well, my neighbor has 3 tickets in 1 month same cop real SOB's here I tell ya....I have fun when I get out of town.

Stock chains may be good on street bikes, but the ones that come on dirt bikes i have owned go right into the bin.
Stock dirt bike chains are JUNK.
Even the O ring ones stretch out after about 10hrs, and in the process wreck the sprokets,
I go to the rivited 9800 psi tsubaki !
2 good adjustments and good chain care will get me at least 1 full season on these (200 hrs)

Has anyone here used sidewinder chains?
13,000 psi tensile prestretched chains! Expensive though!
520 conversions?
Supposed to be da shit!

FBA,
Normally I adjust at 500-1000 mile then maybe every 2000-2500 up to 10K. Then depending on the type of chain you have and how well you lubed, cleaned and drove the chain, every 1000 miles or so. The results of your love will show after 10K. After market chains last anywhere between 8-15,000 miles. The 8,000 mile chain I did not change the front sprocket, my bad. My current chain is the W-Ring RK and I have to admit it's doing better than I thought after 11,000 miles so it may be worth it to spend 40% more!!! Jury is still out on this one.

Hey I understand where your coming from, but think about my situation for a moment. I have 4 stop signs between my house and the main drag. IF you don't put your foot down your done. these guys switch places to watch. Hey I can do a complete stop for a millie sec and proceed without putting my foot down. Hell my MSF required us to come to a complete stop and proceed without putting my foot down. That my friend is the life I lead every day. Yep I put my foot down Almost every single time.
