Got back last night. Although the event was obviously a sad one, she did live to 94 years. And it was the first time in at least 50 years my father and older brother had spoken to each other. And the first time I have ever met or talked to my Uncle Carl. After the funeral, we went back and spent half a day talking and getting to know each other. This funeral helped three brothers reconnect, and on a personal level, let me connect with my father's side of the family, who I mostly didn't know.
Things I now know:
Great grandfather married a full blooded Cherokee, believe they lived in Kansas.
Grandfather was born in 1900. He met and married my grandmother after her family moved from Canada to Kansas.
So that makes me a 1/8 Cherokee, 1/8 Canuck, 1/4 German, 1/4 English fullblooded mongrel.

That adds up to only 3/4. Thought we weren't paying attention?
I also am sorry about your loss, but glad that there was a positive that resulted as well -- if only somehow the positive could have happened without the loss.
