I'm sure the same was said when the Automatic Transmission for cars was introduced. I am as hard core as one can get when we talk of the VFR, in the end if this most advanced motorcycle prices out at 17-20,000 dollars I'm afraid I'll be watching the dust gather in the hope that slow sales pull that price down to a more reasonable 12-13K . I understand technology is not cheap, but I can have just as much fun explaining how my 8 yr old VFR has 119,000 miles on her and is still going.
Just an opinion I suppose.

but this isn't a standard "automatic" transmission... it's essentially the same setup as a paddle shifting tranny in something like an Audi A3? no?
and if you could shift normally without it, why wouldnt you want it? Everyone spends cash trying to build shifters and add them on aftermarket, and here's one with a tranny that does it stock..
discuss...

Ok in the first part of the video there is a clutch lever ... The second part the lever is not there ? So you press a button and the lever does a Jimmy Hoffa ?

Ahh I lost about 45 min of work,
Here is what I said (cliff Notes)
Fish, I am a lover of the V-4 Engine. I would buy a VFR1200 even if it were just an updated version of the VFR800. The fact that it has so much technology, well to me that is just an added bonus not so much a reason to buy the reason I'd buy it.
I love the VCM and shaft drive, but cost is an issue. I suspect the best price for a bike like this will be 17,999 and after taxes and dealers fees your looking at 20 large. A bit pricey for this Schmuck
In the end it would be nice to own a bike that if I were to break my left hand or arm I could still ride. Just joking, but the idea that I would never have to replace a chain does interest me Automatic tranny or paddle shifting ....Not so much.
One never really knows the future but I suspect I would not bet against there being a new bike in my garage before the end of 2010.

I believe they're showing you that it can operate in 3 modes, normal, automatic, or tiptronic .... seems very clear in the video ...

I think this is a great move forward in technology. Finally away with the Ford Model T tranny design that requires you to control several things at once. Snowmobiles enjoy a distinct advantage in bracket racing because they don't have to shift and they are hard to beat. There was the same home guard mentality when the alternator came out and replace the generator. Diesel vs Steam on an on. Just turned 60 yrs old and hate the old sh*t, don't want no Harley, just a faster 14.

IF it goes into production on say the 10RR or the 6RR and kicks butt at the drag strip all the nay sayers will be eating crow as they stand in line to get one.
Same goes if it appears and kicks butt on the road race track.

There are many 10RRs and 6RRs at the drag strips around the world!
Seems like Honda is putting a bike together for the aging Connie 14 owners.

On the drag strip it will be slower .. On Avg manual five-speed transmission are tenth and a half faster than autos ... If autos were faster Prostock would use them over the manual five-speed transmission .. We will have to wait and see just what type of system honda is using and see if it will cross over to the drag strip .. I don't think it will because it wasn't made for the drag strip ..
