notchy gear shift. Hi.
G'day all.
This is my first post here, Iv'e read quite a few threads on your forum and I'm impressed; and I think you may be able to help me.
When I head out of the driveway on my 04 ZX10 the gear changes are as smooth as'. However after about 30 or 40 Kilometres (a K is about .62 of a mile) the gear shift starts to become notchy, more so when down shifting. I think temperature is making the difference between smooth & notchy, but I'm not 100% sure on that point. If I carefully match revs it helps smooth the down shifts. It's worst in the lower gears & sometimes it takes a lot of pressure on the gear lever to go from 2nd to 1st.... especialy when it's hot. I bought the bike about 3 months ago and it has always been like this. It had just over 6000Km on it when I bought it and Iv'e done about 4000Km since then. The clutch cable is adjusted ok and the bike allways launches smoothly.
Any ideas on the cause of this?

Hi -
The 04/05 zx10 has a pretty rudimentary shift mechanism design -
The first time I rode one, we had to look and see if there wasn't something wrong with the linkage -
Here's the Shift Star kit - it'll make a huge difference.
