BEWARE!

2008 - The HONDA CBR1000RR will do in the litre bike class EXACTLY what the 600RR has done in 2007!

Of course you all don't agree, but after the bike is rolled out - I'll be back to bump this thread and laugh!!!

Now I get to sit back and and relax till I can purchase a new HONDA 1000RR, the fastest/lightest/most nimble litre bike for '08!

If that, it would be a great FIRST TIME IN LIFE... The other brands (Kawasaki Suzuki, Yamaha) have been doing for years what you suggest Honda would do for 2008......... JAJA let me laugh!!!

"First time in life"? You must be new to this so I'll help you out. You do know it's a cycle(pun intended) right? Recall 1993?

Brief history:

In 1993 the Honda rolled out the CBR900RR which was about 100 pounds lighter than the GSXR1100, with a full tank of gas! It was the top bike for 5 years. Where was that Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha you were talking about?

In 1998 the R1 became the top literbike and gapped the field for 3 yrs. Where were Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki?

In 2001 the GSXR1000 was the bike to beat; for 3yrs.

In 2004 it was Kawasaki's turn with the ZX10R.

In 2006 the field tightened up with no more huge gaps in performance with the bikes weighing nearly the same and HP within a few of each other. Now in 2007 the R1 and GSXR1000 have gained a few hp at the cost of alot of weight.

In 2008 it's Honda's turn again. If there's any doubt look at how close the 600 class has always been, yet the CBR600 has gapped the field by making a bike that is lighter, more powerful, a better trackbike while being the best streetbike. That's alot to ask of a 600 so look for the same with the CBR1000. Kawasaki hit a home run in 04, only time will tell if they can do it again in 08.

I hope they do get back too the light bandwagon. My hunch Honda would not make anything radical power wise and focus on light weight and and exceptional handling.

The v-twin 1200cc, Aprillia V4 and a new ZX-10 will make for interesting year

Not sure what Suzuki is doing with the 1k light is right principle. Almost like the mid 90's all over again with the GS1100's more power and more weight

Couldn't agree more. If given the choice between less weight or more hp I'll go for less weight everytime. I'd be willing to bet the 09 GSXR1000 will lose all the weight gained; hate to say it but if given the choice between the 06 or 07 GSXR1000 I prefer the 06 alot more.

Stevewfl/ZX12adam; you really took my words so seriously........!!!!
Nevertheless, if you have to search for a serious contender from Honda going back to 1993......thats long term story folks.. In that year Honda was also selling the CBR1000F, and if you compare this bike to the GSXR1100 and ZX-11 of that time...Perhaps you may want to pick up magazines from that year.
In 1993 there also was the ZX7; which put out almost the same power with 750cc and was about 10 miles top speed faster than the CBR.
The CBR was track oriented, being about 30 pounds lighter than the ZX7. Both of them were really good bikes for that years standards.
I´m 41 years old and been riding since I was 16, so I´m really not new to this; and had almost every bike released by Kawasaki, ........,ZX6,ZX9, ZX11, ZX12, and now ZX10 ´05.
I´m interested as you to see what would be 2008 1000RRHonda´s release. Time will have it´s word..

Actually Honda had that contender up to 1998.

And it's been 10 years since Yamaha released that R1 that took the top spot from Honda. How long from the release of the ZX11 to the ZX14? From the 98 Busa to the 08 which isn't even ground breaking? From the 1st 900Ninja to the 04 ZX10R(now THAT one is long term!!!)?

Like I said it's a cycle. One brand get's the honor of having the best bike[on paper] gapping the field, then the next, and the next, and with 4 main brands duking it out it's a big cycle. Remember 2003 when everyone was saying "It's been sooo long since Kawasaki had the top literbike"? Remember 2000 when everyone was asking "Will Suzuki ever make a competitive Literbike much less an Alpha Male?" How about 1997 when fans were asking "can anything top the CBR by a fair margin"?

And if they don't knock 50 pounds off the R1 for 2009 or 2011 then everyone will be saying "Nevertheless, if you have to search for a serious contender from Yamaha going back to 1998......thats long term story folks.."

I wouldn't say the cbr600 has gapped the other 600's... here in South Africa the zx6 has pretty much the same hp as the cbr (yes the cbr has a wider power spread but thats for the ninnies on the road) the zx6 is a MUCH better track bike out the box. It far out handles the cbr... I've tried them both and ended up buying the zx6. Some write ups say the zx6 has the best drivetrain of all the 600's.

Gapped, not on your life. The 600 market is as close as ever and its gonna be just as close for the 1000's. I agree the blade will be light and handle superbly. But it won't gap the other 1000's.

Its all down to opinion at the end of the day.

Let's just wait and see... at the end of the day nothing will save the blade's look :P

The CBR600RR is a great bike, no doubt. Unfortunately its glory was a little tarnished on the track. When it came to end of the '07 AMA Supersport season, Kawasaki finished 1, 2. The Honda did excel in World Supersport where much more extensive modifications are allowed.

Kawi hit a home run in 04? WTF? Fine bike, lots of power, etc, but even when they cheated and cut the front end off and rewelded it at new angle, it still never saw a superbike podium. By 04 most literbikes had a functional rear shock. Sure, they were prone to fade, but at least they had something going on. The 04 10R shock is better suited to keeping a small boat from drifting. The pos had so much compression damping that even with the adjuster screwed all the way out it would skip the back tire if you ran over anything thicker than a shadow. Nice first effort, but Gixxers still rule the roost. Have since 01. Dominate is the term most often used to describe their command of the performance wars.

YUP, but I still say the '08 Honda litre bike will win the magazine shootouts by FAR. But anyway, its no secret on the track the litre bikes are so close its rider skills.

Oh one other thing, I posted this thread before I saw what the folks at Honda made their new litre bike look like!

Well cbr600rr was winner in U.S. magazines (ZX-6R is restricted in USA) but here in europe it's not that clear win to Honda. It was close fight between 6r and 600RR and in some tests 6r wins.

Man that was a biased magazine. The 6R for '07 performed less than all of 600's. The critics worldwide hated on that bike because they dropped the power of the prior 636 and nothing better about suspension, braking, cornering, etc

And the Honda wasn't a clear winner in the shootouts, but barely above the 2nd place bike, the Triumph 675.
