06 10R Observations and ?

Attack had an 06 10R at Willow this weekend, unfortunately it was the slower green model.

I hafta say that the exhaust didn't look as offensive/out of place as I thought it would.

I didn't really like the way the lower fairing was all cut out for the collector(s?).

The instrument cluster looks pretty good to but I doubt it's gonna fit on the preious MY.

The fairing changes at the top of the mids (closest to the frame) seem to clean up the overall cockpit area looks.

Passengers will likely get very hot calves (and asses?).

THe question I have is this, if the 10 has oxygen sensors then will Power Commanders become useless or will the bike still just perform to specified factory settings?

BTW - Josh Hayes won on the Attack 10R.

Perhaps Josh is regretting his decision to leave?

Bad luck for him!

I wouldn't worry about the 02 sensors too much. It they work like they do on a car they really only affect the AF ratio at steady throttle cruising speeds. There's a thing called open loop and closed loop. I don't recall which way it is, but let's say closed loop is when the ECU actually looks at the 02 sensors for info to adjust the mixture, and open loop is when the ECU is running off of a preprogrammed Air/ fuel ratio. I may have the terms reversed and I'm positive someone like CanadaMaxxer could shed a lot more light on this situation than I did. But the way it works is any time the throttle is whacked open or is being moved around a lot like intown riding or just general rippin it up the ECU ignores the 02 sensor's input and runs the program it has. Hopefully Kawasaki has followed the norm here and not reinvented the wheel because if they did it will only make things a little more costly to defeat.

Thanks for the info,

I understand the operation, I'm just wondering if there is enough room in the calibrations for the bikes to run correctly after a few or allota mods.

D.

Was the bike that Josh Hayes won on a new Attack Kawasaki 06, or was it last seasons bike? You didn't say if that was Display, testing or racing with the 06.

Open loop - no O2 measurement, fuel delivered from a fixed, 3D map.

Closed loop - O2 measured, continuous adjustment based on load (vacumn, road speed, etc.) Closed loop is used everywhere except full throttle. For most peeps here, that means only when crusing.

Pretty sure race bike was 05 Superbike, 06 looked to be a runner (pre-prod??? - I didn't even think to check for a VIN).

About the lower fairing cut outs for the pipe...I'd imagine this is so the heat from the cats flows down and out, as opposed to being trapped in the fairing and traveling up to the rider at low speeds.
