Looks like they made it a little more time consuming for getting good space to lube the chain.

Definitely no cat underneath the motor which explains the size of the tail pipes. Which means an aftermarket system from the 2-to-1 or the 1-to-2 joint will provide less restricted flow. Which means more HP! and more dBs! Woo Hoo. I don't know why I'm so excited. I'm not in the market for a new bike...although...

Cats are right there between the flanges and the clamp you see under the engine.

Really? I didn't think that would be big enough. I though it was just the 2-to-1 collector.

HAHA, +1. I thought that on the 1st look of this thread, but didn't want to say anything. You helped me speak my mind there Beaner.

I mean, it would be ok I guess if it wasn't ALWAYS showing because the fairing doesn't cover it.

Black looks the best, but the bike is more rounded looking than gen1. Some of the snarl is taken out of it.

After the initial shock, I won't say I've grown to "like it". For me, the additional pics have made it easy to "deal with". I agree with swft in that it has almost a "gentle" appearance. Again, a "live view" of that intake might change that opinion as well.

An opinion I have that will be much harder to change is the dual undertail exhaust. Not just from an "appearence" aspect (the welds are no big deal to me), but from a technical one as well. It is saddening that with so many obvious and substancial improvements (tach, damper, radial mc, etc.), they take one big step backwards with the undertail exhaust.

Spare me the "aerodynamic" , "centralizing mass" and "higher CG" that is best illustrated on the track...CRAP! Last time I check, the liter bikes sitting on the AMA podiums have... oooooooh ..... what kind of exhaust? IMHO it is a concession the engineershad to make to the marketing folks. I can almost see the debates now as the marketing guys are saying, "Okay, we'll give you the damper and that "engine angle" thingy, but you have to give us the undertail exhaust". That comment followed by the engineers slapping thier collective foreheads and walking away.

I would love to hear EXACTLY what the REAL and PRACTICAL reasons why dual undertail exhaust ARE SOOOOOO SUPERIOR to a conventional exhaust. Better yet... SUPERIOR to an under belly exhaust ala the new Yamaha R6 or Kawi's very own 650R. I figure that this design will have the same lifespan as the 10R's conventional system did. As other brands continue to draw their systems into the under belly, Kawi's marketing folks will eventually (usually a year behind everybody else) be screaming at the engineers to come up with the same for gen3... again, with the engineers slapping their collective foreheads.

Odds are that this is going to be as much of a "whine point" for me as the lack of a radial mc on the '05 model.

Hey Dino? How about HEY KERRY! (no offense Dino).

Just need to figure where put the O2 sensors in the "midpipe/collector". Not that I know anything about such, but it does make me wonder if that too could be a "tuning trick". "Relocating" or changing the positioning of the O2 sensors, that is. I'd almost even take "dual underbelly".

Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmmmmm".

I want one, I'll take mine black, no sugar.

I hardly think the dual underseat pipes vs underbelly pipes are going to make the difference between winning and 2nd place during a heated road race at the track where the rider makes up 90% of the performance to begin with. And on the street the few extra lbs would go unnoticed altogether.

Mounted on the side:
Pros: Acts as a big sub-frame slider for one side, sucks if you bought a $1500 exhaust system.
Cons: Easily damaged, aero drag, doesn't look right.

Underseat:
Pros: Exhaust protected in a drop/crash(could mean the diff in continuing the race), more aerodynamic.
Cons: More weight, maybe less hp with all the extra bends and shit.

Underbelly:
Pros: Lighter, potential more peak hp... maybe.
Cons: Blow the motor and the shit that comes out of it is going straight for yer rear tire.

Looking at the picture in the link above, it looks like there will be a valve to deal with.

And if you look at the rear view pics you see it's not a true underseat exhaust like the CBR's, or 916/998 where it's built into the tail, the pipes are separated enough that it's more of a high mount exhaust than a tail mounted system.
