Instant brake upgrade?
I saw this on another board, thought I'd try it and report the results here.
If you look at the stock pads, there is a small metal wafer clipped to the back of each pad. As I understand it, it's there for some heat dissapation.
The other board was reporting a lot better feel with this small wafer removed. I went ahead and pulled my stock pads and removed the wavers from them...
Man, that was an immediate and noticeable difference! Prior to this, the brake lever would go to within 1/4 inch of the bar. Now, on the same setting (2) it won't go closer than halfway. Not *all* the soft feel is gone, but most of it is. It really feels like there's a set of Galfer lines on the bike now.
It's a pretty cheap (free) experiment, and takes all of a half hour to do. Highly recommended...

I get plenty of grip with my all stock set-up. A bit numb, but plenty of grip. I'm more concerned about heat dissipation than lever travel. As neither have been an issue yet I'm leaving it alone.

If you haven't done it yet bleed your front brakes for a more positive feel. I did this yesterday and got a few bubbles out of the longer line. I just took the discs out for a try and there seems to be less travel, I'll go for a ride to eheck em out later today.

BikeMike - Yep, have bled the brakes several times after installing the Galfer lines. Definate improvement after bleeding, but nowhere as big as a difference as this.

Bovine,
Aftermarket pads for this bike don't have the heatsink, do they?
It'll probably be OK to pull off the wafer/heatsink.
Throttle back, you two.

galfers in the mail will install and leave the wafer in since i'm not changin the pads just yet, then i'll remove wafers and see the difference, cool idea guys, i dont think that street riding will overheat the pads but we'll see...
