I think sometimes "we" tend to assume these kinds of things/checks are always done. Proactive thinking is what super-tuners are all about. One thing always leads to another. Check your lobe centers before and after on this kind of mod. I'd include piston to head to valve, etc.

So now Lurking has .65mm stock and .45mm thinner gaskets . Doug has one that is .35mm . Anyone else have another measurement for us ? Bueller , Bueller , Bueller ??

Hey, dude
My numbers (with the exception of the gasket thickness) are just "what if's"
I (personally) have not measured a combustion chamber, piston volume, squish or deck. I am simply giving an idea of the approximate expected change incurred with a .3mm thinnner gasket. As we learn the actual numbers we will share them with ya'll. Re-fuckin'lax OK.

I just computed the "ROUGH" static compression ratio with your figures and from Lurking . Where did I or anyone attack you ? Refucking lax about what ? Who is upset ? I am not upset about a simple gasket . Like I mentioned before , we all appreciate your input Doug .

Kinda reminds me of the story of the young engineer and Thomas Edison:

New engineer showed up to interview with T. Edison at Menlow Park.

Edison hands him a light bulb that hadn't had the element and base attached yet, asks him to measure the volume of the bulb and neck.

The engineer whips out his protractor, starts making measurements. After about three hours of calculations, he proudly presents his results to Edison.

Edison harrumphs and told him it should have only taken him 20 seconds.

"20 seconds! It would take a super genius to do that" the engineer cried out.

Edison walks over to the sink and fills the bulb with water then pours it into a measuring beaker...

Problem with written communication- You can't see the body english. Nobody's upset. My point is that there are too many numbers being thrown around without any empirical data. People will make decisions based those comments and they may be unfounded. Data, man! We need data!

Since Doug put his caliper on it and got .35mm I will use this as the thinner gasket . Is this an uncompressed gasket ? Makes a difference in the final figs .

I used : 2.9921259842519685 for the bore
2.1653543307086615 for the stroke
21.2 cc's for the combustion chamber volume
from (RRW Magazine)
0.025590551181102365 for the "COMPRESSED"head gasket
from (Lurking) .65mm
3.020 for the gasket bore diameter (guess)
0.015 for the piston to deck (guess)
-3.06 cc's for piston valve relief/dome volume

With the above "rough" figures I get the "claimed" Kawasaki 12.7-1 STATIC compression ratio . Doug said 12.2 stock for the 10R . All figures are in INCHES except the ones that have a CC value .

Now for the .3mm thinner (Doug Meyer) thinner gasket we get a final STATIC compression ratio of 13.518879998512964 to 1 . That again was from a .65mm stock head gasket to a .35mm one . Too much comp for pump premuim gas .

Now for the Lurking .45mm "thinner" head gaset we get a 13.235174923738116 to 1 static compression ratio . This will allow pump premium gas and will be on the limit of it . I wouldn't go much higher in compression than that . But the Doug 13.5 ratio "MIGHT" live in the 10R with the 300*/292* long duration cams . If you could keep the barometer low it could live .

I am talking pump gas . This thinner gasket will of course live on >91 octane . Also notice in the measurements I "GUESSED" on some . These are rough figures and by no means the gospel on any bike . We all would need to measure our OWN bike to see is this would work on PUMP GAS .

Since the figures are close I am ordering this gasket . Wish I could get my other bikes to 13.2-1 CR with a simple gasket change .

...hmmmm...so I'm reading this stuff and the thought occurred to me...hmmm...just like Bizzaro Superman, this dket dude is like a Bizzaro Beansbaxter!!!...

...beeeeeeeeans??????

installation

Anybody who has done this mod??? I am considering it this winter and just wanted to get a difficulty rating on it...I talked to a friend of mine(works on bikes alot) he stated that the motor would have to be dropped and it would take about 8 hours of labor(rediculous)to do...any input on this??

thanks

Yes I have done this mod. Well my friend installed it. He is a motorcycle engine builder. I got the head gasket from muzzys. And yes there is a noticeable difference in power threw out the whole power curve. And yes it does run on pump gas with out detonation however all 93+ gas is not created equal as I have found be careful on the quality of gas you purchase. I have had it on for over a month now and I haven't had a bike to keep up. Mods are Ti force full system, PC3, head gasket, BMC filter, one down in front, hyperpro actice damper. Thats all mods for performance. She sure is more fun now.

Where are cams available for the 10R, and what are optimum numbers for cam timing assuming a road race application?
