I suck at this...err...maybe not...

Hey Guys,

I just got back from the Memorial Day race at Sears Pointe. 21 bikes were there gunning for the prize money. Your's truly (proud member of TFA and rookie racer) managed to pull out the following personal firsts today:

1. First time in the money round (semi-finals)
2. First time in the finals
3. FIRST WIN

Yes, chalk up another win for TFA. Madmike got the first one this season, so I can't claim the first one. But, this was my first win ever.

I went five rounds, but the most memorable was the first run in eliminations. I don't have my time slips handy. I'll post them later. Here's how the rounds went with only the numbers I remember:

the first round: I holeshoted the guy in the other lane. He ran a 9.702 on his 9.70 dial, but I won with a 9.886 on a 9.86 dial. He was asleep, and I managed to cut a mid 4-something light.

the second round: I cut a really bad light (somewhere in the mid-5's, and I had a terrible 60-ft. But, I passed the guy half way down the track because he couldn't get the bike to shift out of 3rd gear. (Yes, better to be lucky than good.)

the third round: This one was sloppy too, but I'll take it. I went up against my buddy Trace, the guy who got me started in this whole mess in the first place. He beat me the last 2 times we went head to head. Going in, I noticed that he was playing headgames with me. I took this as a good sign. This meant that for the first time, he was actually taking me serously. On the way, we both made some mistakes, but I guess mine were less severe. The margin of victory was 0.0101 seconds!!!

the forth round: I lucked out with a bye into the finals. I screwed up this run, but it didn't matter.

the final round: All I remember is that I cut a 0.412 light to his 0.460 light. Bang!!! My first win!!!!

I'm going to bed, now.

Conrats! Super cool. Your hard work is starting to pay off. By the way, as a fellow TFA I am eating a fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookie with pecans!

Thanks, Z. Just to show you guys that I'm working hard to keep my TFA membership, I'm eating a generous helping from Jack in the Box right now.

Ever notice that after a day at the track, it doesn't matter what you eat, it's the best you've ever had? Damn, this is the best sourdough bacon burger I've ever had!!!

Congrats! Makes me want to put the wheelie bar and slick back on! Hey, did you go with the MTC lockup clutch, or are you running a non-lockup.

Mike, thanks! I'm still feeling the afterglow right now.

swft - nope, I'm not running the lockup. I've actually figured a way around it. I just bump the tire pressure up until the tire spins a bit off the line to keep the engine from bogging. Plus, I threw the stock springs back in the clutch to let that drag a bit too. So, I'm running 12 psi on the 7" MT slick while everyone else at the track is running 7-8 psi. It's actually good. There's one less thing that I have to mess with for my setup. If I'm bogging, I just add tire pressure or lower my wheelie bars a bit until I get a good launch. I'd hate to think what it would be like if I had to second guess my clutch setup as well.
