Thoughts on single front rotors...
Hey fellas. I just registered to this forum today, and any input you can give to an amateur rider will be much appreciated. I expect some criticism from this also, but trust me no offense will be taken. With that being said, I'm in the process of building a turbo 14, and anytime I say "I", what I mean is my mechanic is doing the work and I am funding the job. So I just bought a package deal of various parts from some guy on Craigslist, which included a rear galfer rotor and ONE galfer front rotor. What are your guys' thoughts on running one front rotor on a drag bike? Keep in mind I will also be riding this bike on the streets.

Given the added MPH you will be clocking through the traps....
I suppose the honest answer is it depends on how much run-off or shutdown room they give you. Since you posted this in the drag forum the presumption this is for a closed course, 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag strip.
I have fielded a ZX12 at the 1/4 mile as well as in LSR events. But slowing down from a 1 mile run with 1/2 the brakes is much different than turbo speeds in the 1/4 mile with shutdown distances no where near 1 mile.
For the 6-7 pounds saved I'm not sure its worth it at this point in your game. Cost/benefit analysis seems to favoring keeping them on IMO. Although I will say the 14R has superior brakes than the 00 12R brake system, going from 2 rotors up front to 1 rotor up front literally felt like I lost 85% of the front brakes. I fielded it for 3 or 4 miles on the street before I said EFF THIS and went to 2 rotors again.
IF you are still insistent on making this a street/strip bike and want to run ONE brake up front I would do quite a bit of research on the best master cylinder you can run given your caliper/rotor setup. There are supermoto guys out there that can stop with the quickness....but they are about 150 - 200 lbs lighter and struggle to get to 100 mph.
I'm sure many of us on here have run the single up front......and some will say its fine. NONE will say the braking power is anywhere NEAR what duals are. Especially with a turbo....those 6-7 pounds tacked back on can easily be overcome.
Be safe,
A.

Thoughts are ......................... Not sufficient brakes for the job.. You could use a CMC rotor from Brake Tech and possibly have plenty of power but no redundancy for safety.. It takes both
