race gas

Hey Guys

Did You try to add toluen or avgas (plane gasoline) to fuel in Your bikes?
Does it works. Im curious if that could stop knock
fire in highly compressed bikes or with ingnition advanced.

I've run avgas with good results on Nitrous. I didn't have knock issues before. Are you just looking for an inexpensive alternative to non-oxygenated VP type fuels with high octane like C12, C16, etc?

The distillation curve on avgas is all wrong for a land-based vehicle. Stick with purpose-blended race fuel for best results.

shiphteey thats my point to get cheaper race gas.
I have friend with airplane so i will try avgas also.
Did You mix it with normal gasoline and 2\stroke oil.
I heard its dry but other people say its ok for engines.

I did not run any sort of 2 stroke oil. Just avgas. More consistent than pump from what I was told, cheaper than race gas of course.

Some technical info here:

http://www.rockettbrand.com/techsupport/documents/TechBulletins/RacingGasolineVsAviationGas.pdf

http://www.osbornauto.com/racing/race2avgas.htm

There is plenty more info out there on why avgas is not really designed for our applications.

In my area, avgas is $6-8 a gallon, while you can get VP 110 for $8.45 at the local dragstrip. "Cheap" is relative...how much does it cost if you run your motor lean and/or hurt it?

What is your setup? That is the first step in determing the proper fuel to use...

Unless you have really high compression, 93 pump will be fine...

Unfortunately, Shiphteey is banned from Kawasakiworld...but you could always email him. I don't think you have enough posts here to get pm's...

You can also pm me on Kawasakiworld, user name "Warp12". Good luck with whatever you decide!

A #1 misconception is that more octane=more power. You want to use the minimum octane you can without knocking/preignition/detonation....

On my 13.x:1 ZX-12R, 1287cc with porting and cams, I will be using MR12...which has an octane rating equal to 93 pump. Ditto on my 1441 cc 12.x :1 ZX-14R....

Actually MR12 is rated at 87 octane, per VP:

MR12 is rated at 87 Motor Octane...that is different than the research octane (RON) that you see at the gas pump.

More info on octane ratings:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Common mistake...rest assured that MR12 is not the 87 octane you see in pump gas!

Not sure why you are angry. I've never had cancer either, but I can advise people not to smoke, right:?

I have used a lot of different race fuels, and followed adviced from some very experienced racers. I am just passing on the best info that I have.

Ali, let it go. You do not have extensive experience with avgas....we both know this to be true. And, btw, there are several different varieties of avgas!! If I bought 10 gallons tomorrow, would that make me an expert?

You do not even know the difference between motor octane and research octane. But yet you are lashing out? Please read the links that I have provided...I did.

I have never used root beer as a fuel, either...but that doesn't mean I can't advise others on it's suitability. Please, put your angry ego aside...

----FALSE. You don't know what experience I have with avgas, we haven't been cool for a while so don't act like you know me.

And, btw, there are several different varities of avgas!! If I bought 10 gallons tomorrow, would that make me an expert?

----Nope, but you would at least have a leg to stand on.

You do not even know the difference between motor octane and research octane. But yet you are lashing out?

----He's asking about avgas, you have no experience in it, am I correct?

I have never used root beer as a fuel, either...but that doesn't mean I can't advise others on it's suitability. Please, put your angry ego aside...

----Ain't no one angry buddy, at least not me. You can copy and paste whatever you searched about on the internet, or what you "heard" about while I'll stick to talking to him about my personal experiences with it on the track and on the dyno.
