Kawasaki M4 Mineral oil

I got 5 litres of 10w40 and 2 filters as one of my gifts from the old man. is this stuff "too good" for break in? new rings ect ect

4 cycle oil.
advanced super quality oil

In the tradition of building the ultimate performance engines, Kawasaki brings you the ultimate in high performance oil.

i just used 4qts of Amsoil 5/20 full syn for a couple of heat cycles, and tonight i'll dump it to put in Motul 15/50 full syn for Monday dyno & 2011 season.

The Amsoil was bought for a test i never did, and now never plan to do
(back to back dyno 15/50 vs 5/20)

pu-leese don't get into the other debate on using full syn syn vs dino oil for "break in"; on this build i'm reusing pistons and rings

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I TOLD you NOT to get into that debate!!!!!!!!!!!!

But as long as you started it...

How many new cars come with full syn straight from the factory???

On several occasions I've run full syn on brand new pistons & rings, noticed no difference in sealing or hp after 2-3 heat cycles & dyno.

How much breakin does a race engine get?
Mine are lucky if they even see more than 2 heat cycles.

IMO dino oil for breakin on motors w/nikasil cyl is an urban myth.

So There!!!!!

haha i love debates

so Karl, on the builds youve done with new rings and syn, what prep did the pistons, rings and cylinders get?

on the few ive done ive put everything together dry except lube on the pins. spin motor over with injectors unplugged till oil drops in sight glass, then plug the injectors in and fire it up

i've done dry pistons/rings(Muzzy instruction) and sopping wet, no difference that i can tell.

pistons are smoothed (done it not smoothed also), rings are fitted, pistons & pins are WPC-treated.

i always do a cold compression test on a new motor. (got 350-355psi a week ago on Busa)
#1 cyl done with filter loose, oil pukes.
rest cyls done with filter tight, get about 20psi on oil pressure gauge

RR, good idea.
at CR=18:1 i should use glow plugs, cheaper than those $34 sparkplugs

i do the Busa with loose filter out of habit from the 12; prolly don't need to do it.

since we put the negative crank case mod on it it is what i have to do. i have let it run for a scary time with no oil psi noises and i opened the filter up and i also have to pull off the oil filler cap.(i forgot to mention that.)

The Zx12's habit of poor priming ain't a matter of a bad pump, its just something lots of 12's do.

Sometimes if you fire it up it will prime after a bit of running, some will prime OK.

IMO, its better to do the crack the filter thing, assure it is primed, then fire up to instant oil pressure.

KZ- forget the No-Syn deal. Means nothing on a modern engine. FYI, I assemble pistons and rings with two-stroke oil, everything else with assembly lube. IF I'm going to break in, I break in on whatever's handy as long as it's good 4S Mcy oil, dump it and put in the Motul. If no BI is possible, I go straight to the Motul, just like my man Karl.

i started doing this little routine. unplug injectors, spin motor over till oil goes down in the sight glass. plug in injectors and fire it up. the whole motor has allready been pumped full of oil so the idiot light goes out QUICK, and no mess on the filter.

thanks Doug, ill use what i have and then dump it for Motul. i have some 10 40 and 15 50 300V "in stock"

Im thinking a couple heat cycles, a burnout then custom map on a superflow. oil change then tweak it at the track with a DL32

FWIW, I break in on Castrol, then put in the AMSOIL Dominator. On a street engine...., use regular AMSOIL.
