Buddy got his Texas Mile 200mph T shirt!!
I am posting this for my very, very good buddy, Buddy!
We REALLY missed having Buddy in camp TFA at the Texas Mile last week, and i am double darn sure he missed being there.
Hang in there Buddy, Oct will be here before you know it!!!!!

The spirit of Goliad
I made good efforts to run 200+ at Goliad and had high hopes of doing just that before losing a wrist pin slightly before the ¾ mile sign.
But this post is not about that.
Its got out quite a bit now that my health is not so good in fact I'm currently under care of a hospice facility in Jacksonville Florida, feeling good most of the time.
We hired a real estate broker, Doug Campbell here and got a house purchased for my wife and the post is about him, Goliad's organizers and at least one supporter that I know of.
I talk quite a bit about Goliad and what an excellent event it is, and I guess Douglas took it upon himself to relay my situation to the organizers at Goliad. This even after he has taken care of the closing, getting the inspection, and appraisal done, verifying that all shortages on the inspection were repaired, hiring a carpet sanitizer, as well as mowing and cleaning the yard. All of the things that I should have done but was unable to. He's a retiree of the U.S. Coast Guard, so he is a shining example of what kind of people serve our nation and protect our country.
Apparently, after receiving Doug's notice, Jay and Shannon Matus looked and found that I was a regular and wrote me a very nice note as well as made at least one sponsor aware of my efforts (198.3X mph).
Mr. VR Alexander was so kind to dedicate a run of his in a grey Ford GT car #50 that went 203 mph and was eligible for the 200+ shirt, which he sent to me along with one of his excellent ball caps.
If I get my camera unloaded (found) from the packing I will wear the shirt and hat just once so that pictures of what these three generous people have shared can be displayed.
I would like to reciprocate somewhat to show my heartfelt thanks, but don't know if I can. About 12 years ago when Harley Davidson was becoming Harley Davidson again, I went to the Dallas Harry Hines Harley Davidson shoot out for a charity based dyno shootout. I purchased a hand signed t-shirt by Willie G (for those are not motorcycle fans Willie G is THE HD hero).
What I got from Goliad is of much greater value to me, and if the club or VA Alexander wants the shirt I would be glad to mail it to the correct address.
Thanks a million to at least the three above, and whoever else that participated that I don't know about. The last 10 years I got into drag racing, and the last 2 years of 1 mile racing at Goliad, I can easily say I met the best people of my life.

Hi Buddy.
This is Jay and Shannon from The Texas Mile. We are so touched that our little idea of conducting The Texas Mile has come to mean so much to you and others. It is out of our own passion for racing that led us to start The Texas Mile. We now look at it as a twice a year get together with old and new friends from all over the U.S. We missed you at this March 2008 Texas Mile. Thank you for sharing with us and others your recent photos and your story.
The 200 mph Club shirt is yours and is from all of us at The Texas Mile. That specific run will be published on the web site as dedicated to you and you will also officailly be listed in the 200 MPH Club. The cap is 1 of 200 speciality caps which we had made specifically for this March 2008 event. All were given to each participant of this event, our staff and the representatives from Speed's SuperCars Exposed and StreetFire.net. There will be no other caps made like this. You look AWESOME in the shirt and the cap.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do. :-) Our prayers are with you and your family.
God's Speed,
Jay and Shannon Matus

I really appreciate all of the nice comments from everyone.
I've been breathing much better the past couple of days, and getting stronger. I feel sure it's because there are so many people out there praying for me.
I was supposed to go home from the hospice center today, but the equipment that I had at my daughters house didn't get moved over to our new house, so it will be tomorrow before I make it home. I'm feeling so much better now that I'm in my room doing excercises trying to get ready for the October Texas mile.
Sounds like I got a one of kind ball cap, thats quite an honor.

When I picked up my '02 12 and started back racing, I heard about this "ol' man" kicking butt out at the track. So I caught up with him at the Motorplex. We exchanged introductions and hello's, I'm not even sure who won the first race, I do know that since that day I have the good fortune to spend time on and off the track with my friend, Words cannot express my respect ,admiration, and thanks for all that Buddy has done for me involving all aspects of my little world. Matt.

One of my favorite "Buddy" stories:
May of 1993 we installed a new engine in a very old frame. It was a 1970s Denco laydown frame that was designed for a 120 hp engine. It was a flexi-flier and not safe at any speed but I was too dumb to realize that at the time. The new engine made about 200 at the crank which made the bike a rolling death trap.
We made three passes that night and it was intense to say the least, it shook like a dog passing a peach seed all the way down the track. On two of the passes I thought I was going down, we should have just put it away and started over with a new chassis but Buddy said he would like to give it a shot so I told him to go for it. My thoughts were that he would launch it and go to about 300 feet or half track at most and then shut it off and tell me how dangerous it was.
But no, he twisted the throttle to the stops and stayed at WOT throught the traps and when he came back he didn't say anything about the bike except it was fun to ride....
Needless to say I gained a whole new respect for Buddy that night.
