636 wheel swap ???'s

Okay, doing 636 wheel swap (05/06 wheels)
On 2002 zx12r

From what i understand so far

Front and rear wheel have the same axle/ bearing diameter

Will need

636 hub
636 front wheel spacers
14r front rotors

I know ill have to space the front calipers/disc to get them centered, but will the 310mm vs 320mm rotors cause me any issues?

Which rear rotor do i need to use 6r, 10r, or 12r?

Which hanger/rear caliper combintaion do i use?

you realize that the ZX12 is an application for proper aftermarket wheels??

I still have my marchis and RC comps from way back when! They weigh as much as 1 stock wheel for a pair with rotors!

I was in a pinch and tried fitting a zx12 front wheel onto an 05/06 zx6r 636.

Inner wheel bearing diameter was the same so axle could be used.

The spacing with the rotors left to right did not line up with the calipers on the zx6r (radial calipers vs non radial on zx12 2000 model)

I ran single rotor up front so that one of the zx12 wheels and rotors would fit into the space the zx6r caliper allowed. So that meant that the wheel was a little offset...still fit under the stock zx6r front fender and didn't handle TOO weird. Was stable at 175 MPH. 12R rotor being bigger did clear the caliper but I can not remember if we had to make spacers for the caliper or not. This was a few years ago.

If you glanced at the wheel quickly you wouldn't notice. If you looked at the fender and front tire for more than a couple seconds you could spot it.

As far as the rear wheel goes bolt pattern for the sprockets is the same. And you can run a zx6 or zx10 rear rotor on a 12R...dunno about vice versa because 12R looks a little bigger.

who is throwing any money away? Its an investment!!

Also I will say this... as much love as I had for the 12... my 05 & 06 GSXRs were better bikes! Lighter, faster, and of course more power! Still have my 12s.
I would worry less about the weight and more about the power!!

The 05/06 GSXR 1000 is definitely
NOT
Faster than the ZX12R when both receive the normal mods (pipe/exhaust).

When I top out 05/06 GSXR 1000s they do NOT go over 190 mph without a TUNE.
When I top out 00-05 ZX12s they DO go over 190 without a TUNE.

The 12R makes roughly 10 more RWHP than the GSXR 1000 with normal bolt-ons. While the 1000 has the superior power to weight ratio that only affects acceleration thru the gears. The 12R has the superior ram air system and offers good wind protection. Helps it pick up on the back 1/2.

I disagree with worrying more about the power than the weight. 12R already makes respectable power, even by today's standards. Mid 170s RWHP is less than a Gen 5 10R or S1000RR yes...but about where a Gen 4 10R is or modern (pre 2017) gsxr 1000. What holds the 12R back isn't their ram air or their HP, its their WEIGHT. And on the street when goofing off with others most let out after a few gears anyways.

The 12R has a lot of weight to lose...and once on a diet can hold its own. I speak from real world experience.

After you've done the basics like mirror delete, full titanium exhasut, signals flush, lithium battery and alum sprocket the wheels really help change the game. BSTs on my 636 didn't drop the same amount of weight as it did when I went with them on my 12R .... 12R stock wheels are so heavy.

I guess, im putting the wheel swap off for the time being, gonna keep a look out for used carozzeria's, oz wheels, may still do 636 swap in future, but will do it right with 320mm zx10 rotors

----229 mph nitrous loring tailwind.

My best mph on my gsxr? 155 again stock motor'd & swb!

----I've trapped those speeds on a stock motor 12R as well. And judging by your speeds you had excellent conditions (cool air, tailwind, etc) and probably some MR12 or non-pump gas. Don't put up data outliers as if that is what you would NORMALLY run.

Thats real world MPH done at Gainesville!

-----Say the word I'll meet you in S.FL 9/10THS between xmas and new years this year. Check mate fool.
