2000 ZXR12R Wont Start

Hi Everyone,

Hoping some one can help.

I've had my bike for two years without a problem. A couple of months ago my battery died and I pushed the bike to start it. The bike started and I rode it for a hour or so.

The bike has been parked since. I bought a new battery and bike cranks but wont start. I try to jump it, cranks but wont start. Tested voltage 12.7, tested fuel pump, it primes for 3 seconds, when I try to start it, pump is working. I check the spark and it's good, bike still won't start.

I tried to start it with the starting fuel and bike starts and stays running but when I turn it off bike won't start again.

F1 light not flashing I don't have no codes.

Can anyone help, any ideas?

Did you leave it sit for 3 months with Ethanol gas in it? If so, that is probably your problem. Mike.

No I always use 89 plus. I've tested everything put the bike will start only with assist Starting fuel and stay running. But once I turn it off it won't start back up. Engine spins good feel pump works Good spark. If I push it the bike starts and runs until I turn it off

So when you say 89 plus, that's definitely ethanol free (pump is labeled as such)?

Did you do anything to preserve the fuel? Seafoam?

No, you think I have bad gas? When I check spark plugs they are dry.

Doesn't mean much fuel nowadays goes off in a month and a bit esp if there is any ethanol in it. Safe bet would be to ditch the fuel and replace it with fresh non ethanol and then you know u have eliminated that as a cause.

"the bike will start only with assist Starting fuel and stay running" meaning if you keep pumping in "assist starting fuel"? Or once it is going, it runs fine on existing fuel in the main tank? If the former, check the fuel filter, may be clogged.

Its inside tank. If you remove from the bottom the plate that is hold with bolts you'll find the fuel pump and filter assembly.

How do you know fuel isn't getting into the engine?

How would checking the grounds help? Its already been established above that the bike starts when you spray fuel into the throttle bodies..

Honestly, all this talk about ethanol is non sense. I ran my bike all year last year on E85. No issues. Let it sit for over 4 months during the winter, full tank of e85, no treatment. Charged the battery and it fired right up in seconds. Too many people spread misinformation about ethanol fuels.
