Generally means your clutch is on the way out. Never done it myself but I believe the way to diagnose is to open 'er up and measure the height of the clutch stack, see if it is within tolerance still.

Or course if you are on a hot motor with stock clutch, you may just need heavier clutch springs, or possibly a lockup clutch.

I just read a post in another forum where a guy had the exact same problem, his clutch slipped at 9500 rpm in 4th and 5th gears. He installed a new clutch kit and it still did it. He found out that he had put the wrong oil in it earlier. I just had a dealer change my oil last week. This might be my problem. What is the best corrrect oil to run in the 2000 zx-12. I also have get a speedo healer, I saw 208 mph today at 12,000 rpm, and I know it is off cause I have a 17 tooth front sprocket.

can't imagine a dealer putting car oil in, which is what would cause a clutch to slip. any bike oil (or most (all?) diesel oils) should be fine.

Sounds like what mine did when the clutch was done. Oil was the normal stuff I used.

Could be oil I suppose. Try switching oil and see what happends....but its probably your clutch.
