just had my doors blown off!!!
I have an 01 zx12 with a carpenter 1290kit. works well, but just got destroyed by my buddies new gsxr1000. 2nd gear to the top of 4th,,he beat me by 5-6 lenghts.....and I was ready for him, sitting at 8k on the tach using air shifter. the gixxer was clearly faster.....sucks

ohhh. gixxer is stk with a yosh pipe,,,170kms on the bike,,,not even broke in

based solely on what you're saying sounds like there is a significant weight difference. setup is important too.

power to weight!!!!! lol, even if u and ur buddy weigh the same the bikes are bout 80-100 lbs difference, alot more hp you'll need to stay with him,

lol...ya Scott time for another upgrade.. Have to sell something to pay for it...wait, I know, I'll sell the wife that should do it.
Yes Shipteey you guess it,,,or does my avata pic look that fat?? my buddy is 165 and im 235. Im also using stk gearing on the street. Not now though.. Guess having a bike that made 200hp at the crank spoiled me for a time,,,things are changing.

1st major problem is the weight. The 1000s accelerate pretty quickly but with = weight riders the difference wouldn't be as bad. You'd have had a 165 pound guy on a similarly prepped 12 (similar to yours) walk you too FWIW. Do what you gotta do to drop some pounds. Can you physically get to 200 lbs or is that out of the question based on your frame/physique?
Stock gearing on the street was your 2nd big mistake!
Throw a 17 on it, drop some weight and get your shiftpoints right, you should be much closer....with minimal cost invested.
