Thanx for putting the PPG paint codes up.

I painted a couple of panels for my A1, Persimmon Red

but the colour was not right,

too much orange,

and its water based paint, which I have never used before, did give me grief.

Polyester base coat is much easier to use.

So I will see if the local PPG supplier can get a better match!!

Thanx again.

Sorry it ended that way for you. All those numbers I have used in solvent (deltronDBC) based paint NOT water. I am curious as to why they gave you water??...That just blows me away...Are you in CA? My 12R of the same color matches good. Not 100% but every bit of 98-99%....The way I spray (heavy) it was 3-4 coats of mid (candy) to get the tone correct. I take calls EVERY day about dumb assed PPG jobber stores that should not be in business. Let me know if i can help....

Sorry, bit of a misunderstanding, I may have misled you about where I got my 'water based' paint from.

It wasn't from PPG.

But another 'bike' paint company here in the UK, RS Paints http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en/ (Don't want to slag them off)

They could only supply me with water based paint , which I wasn't happy with, but was all I could get.

I bought - silver ground coat, and persimmon red, which was miles off, too much orange, I sprayed it light, I sprayed it heavy, came out the same colour

And black ground coat and pearl purplish black, which i haven't used.

Here is what the invoice stated:-

WB - silver base
COB - red candy
WB - black base
WB - purple mica

I'm not a professional painter, which may be part of the problem, but have been painting for 20 years or so.

Here is a FZR I painted for a mate last year http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff488/MarionPotter/Bikes/24082010060.jpg

Thanx for your input, and hopefully PPG will come through for me.

Thanx Dave.

Oh....Sorry for the misunderstanding...UK???...I have no idea of there environmental regs so cant comment on the availability of solvent based paint. I will say that the purplish black is a 2 stage NOT a 3 stage in the DBC solvent system. Good luck, I hope you can find some solvent over there....

BTW...The FZR looks good....

Thanx for the thumbs up on the FZR

Solvent based car paint, 2K Solid, and Base Coat and Clear, which the FZR is painted in ( got the closest match for the red, white and blue ) is what I normally paint with. But I have no experience with water base, and is just a pain in the ass to use on a small scale.

I will try PPG, only about 2 miles from me, and see if they can help me out.

Thanx for the info.

Dave.

Your welcome....Good luck with the paint. Let me know if you need anything?? The water is cool but IS different. I am certified and have been around it for a few years since its introduction here. Not bad to use if you have all the correct equipment and spraying environment. Have seen a few colors on bikes I have worked on that were available in water but I chose the solvent for match reasons because thats what they use OEM. I have had to do the reverse on autos to get a good match. Water is used on most of them today OEM...

Good luck....

Brett,
i sent you a couple of pm's and would like VERY MUCH to talk to you asap if possible.

Last year my painter here in houston painted my 1st Busa (Asphalt land speed racing) as close as he could get to my Y2K ZX12, green over purple (see below)

This week he is going to paint my 2nd Busa (going to Bonnebville in Sept).

we are looking to get closer to the orig candy lime green & dark purple.

I would really like to please talk to you asap.

Brett,
i sleep weird hours, 7pm to midnight.

If you don't mind i'm going to give your cell # to my paint guy Colt, and ask him to call you today.

Is the deal i noted in my pm OK with you?

Thanks a million,
Karl

Brett,
sorry for the confusion, but looks like Colt just matched a piece from the bike he painted last year for me. He strayed the green last night.

I had wanted the 2nd Busa to be a bit darker, but it'll be cool having them identical.
