MC 00-02 thru MC 00-08 were all issued within the first few months after the introduction of the A1 model, but after the first printing of the service manuals.

Other bulletins, like MC 00-07, specifically apply to just the A1 model. There are some that might apply to both the A1 and A2 models.

The only way a customer might become aware of any of these technical bulletins is if they had some sort of failure that is mentioned in the bulletins. For the most part, they are just an FYI to the dealers and their service departments.

Like car manufacturers, they are not required to inform the customers of these updates. Even if they bought an older version of the service manual. The ONLY time they are required to notify the customers is when it is a NHTSA mandated saftey recall. Then it's federal law that an attempt be made to contact the bike's owner.

Most of issues in these early bulletins were either address in the later reprintings of the service manuals (serving procedures) or by changing parts and or assmbly line procedures at the factory. Thus they would not neccesarily apply to later models (A2, B1, B2, etc.).

There's actually a "repair kit" with a part number, that addresses the alignment of the rear seat cowl on A1 models. It consists of a couple of washers.

MC 00-07 was a tech bulletin issued July 28, 2000. It addressed the factory's use of a locking agent on the screws used in the installation of the winglets during the original factory assembly of the bike.

It was discovered that using this locking agent would weaken the plastic of the winglet and could possibly produce hairline crack on the surface of the winglets.

Like almost all technical bulletins, no dealer action was required unless these cracks were either discovered during normal dealer servicing or was brought to their attention by the customer. In other words, they only have to fix it if the customer whines loud enough.

MC 00-08 was issued on August 18, 2000. It addressed the instuctions of lubricating the clutch release pusher. If too much or too thick grease is used, it could restricte the flow of engine oil through the transmission drive shaft, possibily causing damage to the clutch release needle bearing.

Assembly procedures are the same as stated in the old service manual. Only the type of lubrication used has changed.

The bulletin stated that the lubrication points during the assembly of the clutch is as follows:

Apply a mixture of molybdenum disulfide grease and engine oil (10 parts oil to 1 part grease) to the outside surface of the pusher then install into the driveshaft.

The mixture should be very then and not restrict the oil flow between the driveshaft and the pusher while the engine is running.

Apply grease to the needle bearing and the washer, then install onto the pusher.

Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to the mating sufaces of the pusher and the clutch release shaft.

Apply engine oil on the needle bearings for the clutch release shaft.

Apply grease to the clutch release shaft oil seal.

This was just an addendem to be attached to page 5-11 of the service manuals that were first printed (PN 99924-1253-01).
