Wheelie bars from Schnitz
Anyone here have experience with the bolt-on wheelie bars for the ZX12 that Schnitz has for sale? Are they the same as the Pingel bolt ons? Is $329 a good price for these things?
Thanks!!

I dunno, but I'd like to know....I dont know much about them.
Do they come on and off easily? Can you turn with them? I'd like to go out to a straight stretch and throw it on the 12 to see what full throttle feels like in that first gear.
I saw a cool wheelie bar on swft's bike.

The hassle with putting the bars on and off is pulling the shock so that yoy can mount the strut in place of the shock. Other wise the bars would be on off in a flash.

By the way Bean when we put the bars on Swfts silver 12 I took it out on the road with the street tire and didd some 400 foot burn outs!! The trick is shifting fast enough to make the burnout look like a single gear! Kind of fun but hard on tires, wven 010s!

So, you're saying that the strut is mandatory when running with the wheelie bars? Have you tried running with the stock rear spring? Do you just end up porposing?

I don't make any claim to be a wheelie bar expert, but.... the strut is needed. If you run the shock the bars whould provide some protection from wheeli over stuff but you would have some issues on adjusting the height of the bars. Without a strut the bars would be pretty much cosmetic.

Wheelie bars on the street are...a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME/money!!! (I tried that MANY years ago...when I was a SQUID )
You will go/feel much quicker doing "power-on wheelies" than...spinning-your-tire-to-death...with wheelie bars on the street...

Wheelie bars are good for the track only. Ur gonna need to run a very good tire. U'll just spin the shit out of any street tire. U might be able to use it with a MCR2, but a true flat drag slick would be the best bet. Plus probably need to mess with changing the gearing. Most slicks are taller than street tires and it will raise the gearing on your bike. Unless your doing some serious bracket racing its probably not worth it.

Funny you should mention it. That's exactly why I was looking into it. I'm gonna be running in the Summit series this season, and I need all the help I can get off the line.

zxlnt speaks the truth! Even airing a street tire down to some rediculously low pressure doesn't work! I got it to hook *one* time off the line, and it broke loose while still on the concrete pad. Spun that fucker up so fast it scrubbed all the rubber off in a long streak sideways. Took it right down to the concrete. If I laid off enough to get it to hook up off the line, it would invariably break loose around half track in the top of second or when shifting to third. The bar and the slick go hand in hand, imho. One's no good without the other.

Wheelie bars? Jeez, there's guys going 7s without wheelie bars.
Spend the money on an adjustable length swingarm. Set the bike at 68" or so and let it rip. You can handle it!

SWFT, you talked me out of it. It sounds like it would be a lot easier to get a longer swingarm. Damn.

I think Schnitz sells Pingle bars. I had a set for my ZX-11 and they were very well built and really looked nice. I never got around to putting them on the bike because I never had a slick.

From what I have seen, the extended swing arm allows you to ride the bike to the track and do a little uuummm street racing! The bars make the bike very focused and drag racing only purposed. Trailer / truck it to the track etc.
