akrapovic, hindle, ugggg......what to buy.
so far i have narrowed my off season full exhaust purchase to either an akrapovic (for the looks and quality) or a hindle (supposedly it makes the most hp). tiforce and muzzys are running close thirds if i can get them on the cheap.
i could use some advice on what to do. i know that the akra cost more and does less, but it is so nice, i might actually sacrifice the hp for the quality and looks.

i would honestly swap the acra for the muzzy. same or more power, but a good chunk cheaper. seems to me hindle & muzzy are very much running neck & neck. both make top notch power and are reasonably priced. i lean towards hindle cause of it's a canadian company, and muzzys cause it's "the name" to have with a kaw. plus they'r just such nice guys

sorry to keep beating the crap outta this dead horse, but I'm going to be buying something pretty soon, and it's a lot of dough. I really want to make a good decision here, but i dont know much about the individual products.
low end, and mid range hp does matter, so does sound, so does looks........uggh.
sorry,

Jason, I usually dont chime in on pipe posts anymore but you did set up a good deal for me on the damper so... personally I wouldnt buy a pipe that doesnt fit right and melts the plastic. Nor would I buy a four into one for the street. If you are going to be doing a lot of dyno testing I wouldnt buy a carbon can either. If you want to wrap the pipe then dont buy a TI pipe.
I've seen the serpent, the Akra, Muzzy etc. And from the dyno testing I've seen The Yosh duplex race has the best power below 6000 (muzzy is close). And it can produce 181 hp up top. It fits, its middle of the road price wise, and its not as loud as most other pipes even with the "race" can on it. It comes polished like a mirror and is very light with a polished stainless sleeve for the can.
Give it a look before you buy.

I'll throw another name into the ring - Ti Force. The craftsmanship and fit are awesome. But pricewise, it isn't cheap.

Jason, I can see that the "Quality" and Looks are also important! (Important for me also!) The Part of the Akrapovic that looks the best is the part no one can see unless they look through the hole in the fairing or you have the fairing off! The Part of the hindle that looks the best is the part that everyone can see! The Muffler and "S" Pipe! If you know "Anything" about me by now, it is that I just may be the Most Fussy person on this board! 99.999% perfect is just not good enough and 101% perfect is just getting close! Second, everything in life is some type of Compromise! (Another reason to get to heaven) Understanding this, remember that I Sold my Akrapovic AFTER!! I had the Hindle! If I had sole it Before, I would not have had a choice, but after the fact, I had "ALL" of the choices! Second, Lang Hindle and I have been friends since the late 70's! I have had more than a few bikes since that time! I had his pipe on my ZX11 and sold it for a Nexus! This is only the second of his pipes I have ever had! WHen I raced, I had an Hand Bent Yoshimura Pipe! BTW, this is my "Last note to you about this subject!!

ok thanks guys, im gonna go drive my bike off of a cliff now so i dont have to think about this anymore. ok, there must be a "best", there is a "best" in almost everything in life. this should be easy, shouldn't it? for example, if anyone asked "what is the best bike"?, the only answer would be ZX12, see how easy that was.

believe me vincent,
everytime i even think about the word "exhaust", the very first and most powerful image in my head is that of you holding an akrapovic in one hand; admiring its welds and craftmanship, and holding a hindle in the other hand; thinking about its superior hp. and then kicking the akra to the curb.
it's hard i tell ya, it's hard man. on sound alone, i basically have to eliminate the muzzy, not to mention that everyone has a muzzy; so that in itself is an eliminating factor as well. anyway you cut it, i'm gonna be dropping around 1500 bucks, give or take a couple hundred. that being the case, i'm buying NEW and "the best". if those two things cost me a few hundred more, then so be it. I could never enjoy my bike knowing that i am basically married to second best. and once i buy a system, im married.
so vincent, although we have close to 30 years between us, we are birds of a feather; because i gotta have it perfect the first time out.
hmmm,
jason

Oh, we're voting, then put me down for a Muzzy. I like the carbon can, no problems with melting plastic, BIG power up top, great price.

All the pipes have their pros and cons. All the pipes you mentioned make similar power, "Same Difference". You're riding the baddest motherfucker on the planet (The 12), It should sound the baddest.

If ya want the best I would say get an Akra Full Ti Evo pipe. Harry's bike made 182 horsepower with the Akra. On the same day same dyno, the Muzzys were abt 4-5 ponies down. Of course it could have been mapping that made the difference. But you get the Akra Evo you can bet not many other people will have one. Personally I have a Muzzy, I bought it used and the price was right at the time.

38K+ miles, a few dyno runs, a couple of track days and a couple of repackings... still looks, sounds and performs great. My Muzzy Ti/CF oval has been far more forgiving of my stupid actions then my ex-wife or any of my ex-girlfriends.I refuse to elaberate about catching my bike on fire... twice.

What you need is to narrow the opinions down a bit to give you a better idea.Everyone that spent the money on a Akro is going to say there the best but have they tried any other and if they had was it worth the extra money for the Akro? The only 2 i've personally tried on a zx12 are the Muzzys(stainless with alum. muffler and also full ti systems)and the new Hindle. Both were without pc3's.Both Muzzy's were great and had a cool "camed up big block" idle and were screaming loud from mid range and up.This was cool for a while but the noise adventually got to me.The new Hindle pipe idles great, has great drivability without the need of a pc3 and has a "classy"sound. IMHO produces the most power.Fit and finish is great.

It's an "early" Akrapovic Evo S/S Ti. I've had it on for ~1 yr. now; & held it a year before putting it on. No problems excepting it's a bit close to the right rear turn signal (1/4".) The signal hits it once & awhile on BIG bumps; someday I'll do the "signal tuck" job.
The only reason I got the Akra was I knew a distributor who gave me that pipe new <$800. It was too good a deal to pass up at the time. I like the nice quiet tone of the pipe around town; yet it still sings up top.
That's not to say I don't like Muzzys; in fact I do. I had a Muzzys on my ZRX1100 for awhile until I was given a Tsukigi for testing. Again a great deal or I would still be running a Muzzy on that bike too. I think most of us run Muzzys-right? We should support the folks who support us...
