I have seen one post about a month or so ago on one of the boards where a guy claimed 190+ hp out of his 12 with a micron serpent exhaust and a pc3r. He was brutalized by most everyone and I have not seen anything else on the serpent.
According to Micron's website they claim the stock 12 is at 164.4 and with the serpent exhaust a PCIIIr they claim 180.6 so they are claiming about a 16 horse improvement.
As I remeber that is in the same range as I saw with my Muzzy system. I saw dyno runs around 180 with a best of 182.

Ah boost, ANY pipe should hold power to redline if its worth anything.
Not a fan of Micron at all, unless its attached to a Hahn turbo system...lol
THe Serpent may be good in theory, but I cant see it working on the street or track. You'd be better off trying to fit one of Yamaha's exup valves on the bike...hehe.
I think the Hindle stepped pipe is the one to have now. Although I am partial to Muzzys. My blood isnt blue enough for the Akros...hehehe

I have the full micron serpent race with carbon can. I believe if memory serves correctly the post being refered to with 190 claimed was out of the country results.
My results with the serpent were, 180 h.p. on miami's fl. blaise cycle's dyno.& 172h.p. on dyno mike's stuart fl. dyno.
it's said blaise is a few h.p. high and mikes a bit low. so i figure i have 175 h.p or so.This was on a 01 with a p.c111,kleen air gone, bmc filters.the tests were also done within 1 week of each other in may's fl.heat.
dyno mike however was at night, blaise daytime.everyone has their favorite "pipe" and that is all about preference.i think most of the top brand pipes will perform equally, some more on top some bottom end.I did switch from a muzzy system to the serpent.I only dynoed once with the muzzy, but i did not have a p.c or bmc filters on like i did with the serpent.I dynoed at 169 on dyno mike's.The muzzy seemed to have a bit more on top and serpent a bit more on botton-mid.just my o2.I am in no way knocking muzzy pipes and i am a big fan of their full ti system, however i did notice a big difference in low end stutter, and no 2.5k r.p.m's problem with the serpent. This i beleive has to do with microns "serpent system".so where do you want it?low, mid or high?.
i myself happen to like the low end-midrange,where some like top speed performance.

just to set the record straight..i like the micron system...i guess people where reacting more to the claim of 190 hp on the rear wheel..i can't wait to dyno the old hindle to see what i get..

Moody... you are really on to the real facts if you were. We kind of get caught up in max hp and or torque numbers for bragging rights. But in reality you should look for a pipe and mods that work in your range if you will.
Damn few street riders can honestly say they ride a ZX12R at 100% throttle at or near red line much of the time. Other then maybe third and 4th. Partly because redline in 1st and 2nd usually are wheelie overs and 5th and 6th require a lot of space!! But there is something to say about roll ons, and mid-range power. That is why I like the stroker, it is a gorilla in the midrange and it will stomp your ass on the top if you want it.
I look at pipes and look for the free horsepower if you will. It is amazing at times where a pipe will give a bike another 10 to 15 ponies at the top end and everyone starts going wild. Thats cool, but what is really cool is when you can look at a dyno comparison and see things like a 25 hp increase at say 6000 rpm.
Thats when a pipe really shines in my book. I had a XX that I had tried some really expensive pipes on and they all gave good power increases. Then I had Mike Velasco build me a one off custom pipe. The pipe made the most peak horsepower of all the pipes. 17.5 horses. But what was really impressive was at 5500 rpm the pipe picked up 27.5 horsepower over the stock pipe and just over 10 horsepower more then the Akro and Two Brothers pipes at the same rpm. The huge increase in the midrange was awesome!!!!

Moody, the basket is a worthwile investment. IF anything, its dynamically balanced and makes the engine run smoother. For the $350, its cheap insurance.
Running without one and you are on "borrowed" time.

I think is well worth the money if your going to run it hard, do some drag racing etc.

I've mapped 2-12s with Serpent pipes...an early model, and an 02...
The early model was a DOG for some reason...163.8HP 92.3lb
The 02 made 168.7HP and 94.1 with VERY LOW milage...I'm sure it will go over 170HP with more miles...

Hey ZHool...how come you didnt go the route like you did with your XX about having a custom pipe made for your 12? Just curious.

My 12 has been a quest of horsepower and weight reduction. Velasco's one off pipes are Stainless Steel and I wanted Ti. If Mike gets hooked up to use Ti I will probably let him have a go.
