muzzy clutch kit
I have been forum reader for a while now and finally decided to start posting. Like your favorite teacher all ways told ya, 'you wont know till you ask." I have a 2000 zx12. I was wondering is the basket and the hub absolutely necessary or can i just get away with just the hub and clutches. The 12 is the daily street rider with an occasional drag race.

get a basket because the stock ones suck. my friend broke his doing a wheelie on a stock wheelbase. the hub would be more for if you race it a lot and need the extra oil to keep from cooking it. you don't need a muzzy one since you can get a 2002 and up hub for a lot cheaper, even though they aret he same.
if it comes down to just getting just one or the other, go with the basket!

So the basket is the part that is doing the "exploding"?

Its either one or the other. Don't have bill gates funds, my clutches are shot and just want to upgrade before something goes wrong. I haven't drag race the 12 or the 14, just trying to get ahead of the game before a major disaster happens. Would clutches and a basket suffice? or could i just put some clutches in; considering that a drag race is an occasional (call me out and i bite back) situation.

get the billet basket, and new fibers if your are worn, if your steels are flat reuse them. colour is fine if they arent warped. oiling mods are free if you have a drill, no need for a new hub thats drilled. do a search for oiling mods or not enough oil in clutch ect

Buy the 2002 and later clutch hub it has the holes in the back that allow the oil to get to the clutch pack.Earlier model hubs don't have this.I also believe people mistake the names of the parts the hub is the inner part the basket is the outer with the gear on it.

it will have machining done by the hub nut, and holes to allow oil to get to the middle of the clutch pack if its a muzzy. the muzzy friction plates are just oem anyway, only the steels are diff(muzzy are thicker)

The Muzzy hub and OEM hub are exactly the same and you dont need to use Muzzy clutches with Muzzy hub...
As Scott said its all OEM stuff, Muzzy just uses 2.0 steels...
By the way Muzzy now uses a 2002 & newer OEM hub, but added his drilling in the channels, which makes it better than Kawasaki OEM for oiling to the clutches!!!

The odball fibre as you call it is the one narrower radially I expect. Its only narrower to allow for the round spring that fits inside it. That fibre is the first one you put in. I use stock Kawa 2mm steels, part no. 13089-1124, may be cheaper than Muzzy over here in the UK.

My bike has Gone 8.6 at 169.8 and I have a stock basket never had a problem. I have the muzzys clutch and hub I think it works well. I tried to put spray on my big motor and just found out the limit of this clutch it wouldnt hold a 40 shot. For a street bike stock clutch is fine in my opnion.

Squid...You have the stock basket in your 12???
If so, save yourself alot of $$$ and down time by putting a Billet Basket in...
I know everyone else will agree!!!

I do have the stock basket. My buddy does to he even had clutch fibers explode with no damage to the basket. I know its cheap insurance but I keep spending the money on other things!
