Upper Triple Clamp replacements What are the benefits of replacing the upper triple clamp on a motorcycle?
Who offers upper triple clamp replacements for the 12? Is this a mod that everyone has done to their 12?
The only one I've heard of is by Vortex Racing, but I didnt know what to compare them to, let alone if they are any good.

This is a bit trickey. Most of the guys on the board are making changes to elevate the bars i.e. the heli bar type thing and then some of the drag race guys are getting the set up that changes the rake to make it longer if you will. Thats all fine and good for drag racing but kind of makes the bike a pig in the twisties. I have not seen the Vortex unit so I can comment. I can say that with a set of Race tech modified / prepped stock forks and pushing the forks up in the triple clamps about 5 to 8 mm makes the 12 turn really well. I suggest a steering stabilizer to prevent the headshake you can get by raising the fork tubes or dropping the tripple clamps which ever you like to call it. I have played with my 12 at SIR or Pacific Raceway as it called these days and had very few guys pass me. And I was plesantly surprised at how well it turned and I found myself able to change lines in the corner to pass slower riders without any real hassle. By no means is it an SV but the acceleration out of the corner as well as straightaway speed help to negate the SV's corner speeds!
I'd save you tripple clamp money for other things. Just my 2 cents worth.

What's the difference in the height of the risers? Which height would keep it stock, where it's at now? What are the positives/negatives of raising or lowering the height compared to the stock level??

Just got mine from Doug this week. Havn't had a spare minute to put it on yet. Maybe today. I'll let you know if it's lighter than stock, not that it would matter to your '02, but hey I tried. I just wanted the rise. Damn thing is a work of art.

Remember the "Stock" is "Cast" Aluminum and the Spencer Cycle are Machined from "Billet" Aluminum! To me (I did not weigh them, but Spencer is Heavier! Saying that, it looks and feels twice as strong and 1.5" Raise does wonders on a 500 mile trip!
Two the person that bought one I have 2 suggestions! #1, either drill the hole larger or another hole just above it that positions your throttle cables! #2, unless you already have braided cable brake lines, you "May" Need to modify your junction for the brake lines, but you must leave the bracket to mount the plastic under there!

Yup, held 'em both in my hands, even swapped hands a few times, the billet piece from Spencer's is a wee bit heavier. The stock brake line is tight but it will work with a tweak to the banjo fitting at the resivor. I believe the Heli-Bars would work with them also, but as you say, the hole for the alignment pin will have to be re-drilled to position the throttle cables under the brake lever. A longer brake line will definately be needed in order to use them both. Which brings me to this, can a brake line be lengthened/spliced until I can get some braided ones delivered? Not something I'm too thrilled about attempting.

Putzed around this evening and got the thing to work with the Heli-Bars and the stock brake lines in the manner stated above(no splicing/extension). A longer line is in order, needed braided ones anyway. If anyone tries this be sure to rotate the throttle cables down far enough so that the brake lever will not contact them at full pull.
