Mobil 1 MX4T from the very moment we uncrated my baby 2 1/2 years and 35K miles ago. Nothing else during break-in or at any other time. I also still running with the original clutch basket AND the original fiber and steel clutch plates... and I'm a wuss rider too!

There is an oil test article and I believe it was in a ducati forum or web page and it compared oil viscosity at 800 miles, 1600 and finally at 3400 or 3600 miles. The test bike was something like a 650-800cc twin. Test loop was done on all oils and samples where tested at each of the above intervals. Oils tested was Mobil ONE, Golden Spec, Castrol GTX, and the rest my memory fails. It was three fully synthetics, and three petroleum.
Mobil one came on top, the second will surprise - it was Castrol GTX. I guess John Force has been backing a very good produce. The test did not include oils such as Motul, syn or otherwise.
Now, If anyone remembers this page, I would dearly like to get the link, so I can make a hard copy of it.
And it will answer alot of peoples questions.

Castrol has won or finished in the top three of many a oil shootout. They usually finish first in the ability to withstand heat and second or third on wear. I use Castrol in my cars and for breakin oil usually. I run Redline in my broken in hi-performance machines.
The fact that I change oil about every 1500 miles makes my use of sybthetic questionable. But what the heck. My engines look like new when they are torn down except for the giant holes in the cases, and or heads!!

Hey eddy run your's and I will run mine, that's why we call it America and by the way mobil-1 the oil you run is a great oil also, but if memory serves me right your oil goes for around $5.00 dollars, so I guess we are all kinda of a sucker....

Don't feel bad, marlon1. If my memory serves me right, my MX4T goes for about $8 a quart as well. When I count up the number of oil vhanges I've done over the past 35K miles... well, I ain't gonna bother to do the math, but we both know that it adds up. The best part (and what only matters) is that I don't mind paying at all.

Just about every test/comparison has shown that 100% pure synthetic (ANY BRAND, CAR or MOTORCYCLE SPECIFIC)oil is overkill. So like Curly says, "It Doesn't Matter". Now if you want to know which of the pure synthetics ranks best, Amsoil and Mobil 1 usually rank 1+2. I use Amsoil 0-40 in winter and Mobil 1-MX4T in summer.

I just love the debate on oils. It never ceses to touch nerves on some and put others to sleep. A good article on the subject can be found at:
www.xs11.com/stories/croil96.htm
The conclusions are quite interesting.
Personally I run Castrol GTX in my rebored flatslided Vmax. Tried syunthetic but the clutch doesn't seem to like it. I also have a Scott oil filter and so the cost of changing the oil every 1500 to 2000 kms is not too bad.
When my zx12r gets finished with the break in period I'm going to stay with non syn oils and a Scott filter.

...ya all ever seen the Castrol TV commercial?
"...or this may happen to you!" Clank! as the engine siezes; pretty dramatic.
One day racing my GPz1100 at Sears Point running GTX 20-50wt. I spent the entire Open Class race in 2nd place on a hot day drafting the leader. Last few laps the engine felt like it was losing power; upon pulling in the pits it went "CLANK!" It siezed from overheating the oil; GTX broke down & fried every damn bearing in the engine. It was total slag & had to be completely rebuilt!
I have since run nothing but Mobil-1 (car stuff), & now run Mobil-1 MXT4. Target has the best sales, about $5 a quart. Since switching to Mobil-1 in all my cars & bikes, I have not had a heat related problem. All vechiles run cooler, make more hp, get better mileage, & I have peace of mind now. What more could one ask?
Castrol GTX....pppfffhhhhtttt! Never again...
