World's Cheapest Rearset Footpegs for 12R

Kinda...

Since LP doesn't offer (and doesn't plan to) a set of these pegs for the 12R, I got a set for the 7R and did a little "modifying". At a cost of around $60, it beats the hell out of paying $400+ for the "real thing". Is it as good as a "true" rearset? I doubt it, but it damn was worth what I paid for it.

This pic shows how I had drilled a hole through the 12R bracket and ground down the sides of the new "peg holder" to fit between the tabs for the OEM pegs. I use a 10 mm thread bolt (not provided) to attach the peg holder.

Since I plan on keeping these pegs when I trade the 12R in, I didn't cut off the OEM tabs. That way I can put the old pegs back on. Drilling the left bracket is pretty straight forward, but the right bracket is a little tricker.

On it, you have to drill through the part that holds the back part of the brake pedal and it's retaining washer. Still not that big of a deal (except when I try to put the OEM pegs back on).

This next pic show how the peg is adjustable.

This is the "finished product". After adjusting the shifter and the brake pedal (as well as the brake light switch), your good to go.

As for changing the seating position... OH MY GAWD! It's a completely different bike! Being kinda short (5'9" w/ 32" inseam), these pegs put me all over the tank. It does require some getting used to, but I did a 290+ mile ride yesterday and it was the most fun I have EVER had on my 12R.

A SPECIAL NOTE...

These pegs DO NOT fold. If you do actually scrap one, I'm guessing that you've probably already drug something else and your about to lowside the bike anyway. At least the fact that they do not fold might keep you from doing more damage (or it might cause more... who knows?).

The pegs I did have on my 12R were off my old 7R and they'd only fold about half of what the OEM pegs did. On the couple of occasions I did dump my 7R, I was glad they did not fold up all the way. There was less damage.

Nice setup Redelk! What was the PN on those pegs?
What is the range of adjustability? 2" or less?

TB, I'd guess the offset from the original is a little over an inch, but I'll try to remember to measure it tonight. Depending on where you locate the peg would change the "up & back" (or "down and foward") measurements. I'm guessin' that mine's set at around 3/4" up and 3/4" back. I'll double check.

Beans, if anything, when you get the pegs, send 'em and your brackets to Harry. He's gettin' a set and he's far more experienced in this type of fabrication work then I. The whole point is that if an idiot like me can do it... ANYBODY CAN! All the tools you'd need would be something like,

1. 6 mm allen wrench - for the bracket removal
2. 5 mm allen wrench - for the pegs
3. 10 mm socket - for removing the brake pedal washer
4. 14 mm socket - for the 10 mm thread bolts
3. drill
4. 7/16" drill bit
5. drimel w/ grinding wheel -a file would work (I used an air disc grinder)

Then follow these 10 easy steps (always wear eye protection)...

1. Remove OEM pegs
2. Remove brackets, shifter and brake.
3. Drill hole in each bracket and brake washer. On the right bracket, start on the back and use the thread hole for the washer bolt as a guide hole. On the left bracket, just center between the OEM peg tabs.
4. Grind a flat spot on opposite sides of the peg holder. Grind a little, check fit, do more if needed.
5. With the 10 mm thread bolts, attach the peg holders.
6. Reattach shifter, brake pedal and switch to brackets.
7. Position peg bracket where you want and the adjust the actual peg angle.
8. Check the bolt head clearance on the brake side and make sure that it won't rub against the swingarm.
9. Double check all the allen screws, bolts and brake switch.
10. RIDE!

Since I got my 10 mm bolts from my dealer's "box 'o bolts", I had to cut some of the threads off of one of them to fit. The one on the brake side is almost twice as long as the one on the shifter side.

Mine are mounted

What a difference!! I got the milled pegs V-360M.I only rode it for a little and I LIKE IT! Retail is $69.95 for the milled ones.It wasn't too bad fitting them but as RedElk says they do have to be modified.

Redelk, trust me on this one, the foot psg bracket is the fuse for the frame. Look at them too hard and the bracket will break!
