front fork springs

I was wondering if anyone ever needed to change the front
springs and oil . My forks come close to bottoming out just from braking hard. With that much movement I wonder how much i'll be able to lower the front forks in conjuction with dogbones.I'm 6'5" and 240lbs.

Go to www.racetech.com, and they'll have stiffer fork springs.

Race tech springs work really well. Also their fork oil holds up better then any other I have seen. I have been amazed at how clean the Race Tech fork oil stays. It is more expensive but lasts longer.

If you can afford it I would strongly suggest you send your forks to Race Tech let them revalve and respring you. Their work is outstanding.

Before you go of spending money, did you adjust the preload on the forks?

maybe I was hallucinating, but I thought I heard from a few folks that having 12R front springs go 'soft' wasn't an uncommon problem. Heck, Turbo810 and/or Judge had the problem too I think.

Mine are the same way. I was thinking about doing the RaceTech thing too but I just ain't got the cash now......

wannabe, yes,I adjusted the preload all the way down with no luck. I measured using a tie wrap on the slider and it is within 3/4 of an inch from the bottom. I have a customized paint job on the front fender and bottom half of the fairing, springs are on 0rder. $100

You might be thinking about the nitrogen in the rear shock. The pressure does drop down over a period of time. I posted my experence with the rear shock on this thread...

http://www.bikeland.org/board//viewthread.php?FID=1&TID=3138

I also replaced my front fork springs with a "heavier" set from RaceTech. I took pictures of the process, if your are interested in doing it yourself. Just e-mail me at adcraft@cei.net.

Have them check the nitrogen pressure in your shock as well. Mine had gone down to 60psi (OEM is 142). They will need a shock valve needle to do it. The cap will also have to be removed. In the above mentioned post, I explain how you "save" the cap so you can reuse it. If your dealer removes it, odds are that it can't be reused. It's not that big of a deal, but it's nice still having the cap to keep out road trash.

At 240 you are waaayy to heavy for the stock .860kg springs. You need the 1.1kg springs! Any suspension guy worth his salt would know this.

Race tech customer service sucks a big dick.

At least thats what lubricity's experience was.Hell,I wouldn't let them revalve Ninjamans custom hydralic dildo!

GMD computrack did my forks, revalved them, installed new springs matched to my weight.I also got a Penske rear shock with a spring to match my weight. They also set up my suspension for me and worked with me on adjusting while I was there (in atlanta,ga.)My bike handles like a totally different bike, much much better.I'm very happy with the way my bike is now.

i'm startin to wonder if i'm sufferin from soft springs too. i only weight 170lbs, but even tho i have never felt the pegs scrape, i have scraped the shit oughta the bodywork in mid-lean. it feels like it's close to goin thru in a couple places. i can only imagine that my springs (and shock pressure?) are so soft that the suspension compresses too much from the lateral force, reducing the max lean angle to the bodywork. my fairings are both cracked anyway so i'm not too concerned about the current pair, but i dont want this to keep happening when i replace/repair them. any similar experiences? is my diagnosis at all plausible?

I'm trying to get the most out of the stock stuff. At 6-1 & 220 lbs. with only 500+ miles on the 02. I ran some posted 15 mph exit ramps today at 110 mph & felt comfortable. My main concern is how the bike will behave at 150+ mph.

Will someone post a sponsor or whatever where I can purchase a K&N air filter online? Thanks...Ed.
