Aftermarket exhaust pipes for the ZX-12R??
What does everyone recommend for upgrading the exhaust on the 12? And why?
Also...due to the heat the 12 produces, can a carbon fiber exhaust really work on the bike? TwoBrothersRacing says no, but Muzzys says yes.
Also...how often does an aftermarket exhaust have to be repacked? Or once its installed, is it a done deal?
All advice is appreciated!

I say yes. This is the second 12 I have had with the Muzzy carbon can, no problems. RedElk may have the record for the more miles and most abused Muzzy CF can and it still lools great.
Repack ? Well I think the recommened is 5-7K miles, I checked my packing after 13K and it looked good, I guess it depends on how your bikes runs. I'll let Doug give you the repacking info.
I'd recommend a Muzzys pipe with a CF can to anyone wanting one. Great power, great looks, great support.

I really loved my Muzzy Full Ti, Oval system, and it only weighed 9 lbs total.... and Redelk has abused the crap out of his and it does still look good... carbon fiber is nice but I love the Titanium!!

I bought my Muzzy from Smurfkilla. How ever many miles he put on without repacking was too many. I repacked it today and upon opening it up I found about enough packing to fill a coffee cup. No wonder the bastard was so loud!! I'm keeping track of how many miles I get out of this new packing. Will keep the board posted.

That bike looks beautiful...mine is also blue and I think that carbon fiber Muzzy looks superb!
What is the difference between a full exhaust setup or what is referred to as a slip on? Which one is in that pic?
What is your take on extreme heat is bad when running a carbon fiber exhaust? Is this true? Or does this only matter in extreme racing conditions. I like to drive fast on the highway for a few hours (when travelling) and I dont want to worry about things going wrong?

That's a full system. A slip on only replaces your canister (that HUGE thing that say Titanium on it) so you'll still have the rest of the stock pipe with a slip on.
You don't have to worry about the heat when you are riding. Extreme conditions would be something like a lot of high speed dyno runs without air running across the canister. If you were actually moving or idling in traffic there isn't anything to worry about.

I'm sold now! I'm looking at Muzzy's website now getting ready to order one...but a few more questions.
Should I order this myself online or have my dealer order it? Either way, I have to take it to my dealer to get installed...how much will that cost?
Will this void my warranty on the bike?
Finally, can you please tell me exactly which part number you have? There are a few to choose from, and I'm not sure which one is the one in the pic.
And just want to say I appreciate all your help here.

And what does everyone think of Yoshimura? Looking at them online, they seem extremely exspensive...but so are some of the Muzzys so whats the difference, if any?

Muzzys has a new muffler option. Polished oval stainless steel, for those that want the billet end cap/oval shape with a bright finish. Look at "canister options" on our site for pics.

Guilty as charged
I wish I could say it was because of my raw talent and skill that abused my Muzzy Ti/CF oval... but too many folks know the truth.
I have 30K miles on my system. Almost half of those miles were unintentionally without packing. I have set my bike on fire twice due to rev'ing it up while on the stands (I won't go into detail or reasoning... both are hilariously stupid). I've also done two dyno runs (3 runs each) without removing the fairing or using fans.
End results? The Muzzy name plate has come off the rivets. The only thing I do in the way of taking care of the CF canister is I wipe it down with Plexus or S100 after every ride.
Every pipe has it's own characteristics and it's will be forever debated on which is best. To just use max. HP numbers would be foolish. It's the total power curve (HP AND torque) that matters. All brands are very close. Throw a PCIII (or IIIR) in the mix and all bets are off.
For me, Muzzy was an easy choice and after having one for almost two years, it has confirmed my reasons. The weight reduction and performance improvements could be said to be very close between all makes. What's left? Cost, durability and most importantly... customer service. Muzzy cost less and I think I'm more then satisfied on it's durability (and it's ability to survive stupid customer abuse).
I don't know what Akro's or Yosh's is like, but I do know what Muzzy's is like. Like any business, a manufacturer won't be able to please everyone. Still, have a representative from a exhaust system manufacturer (and the company's owner) being easily accessible sure does make getting questions answered a whole lot easier.
As far as ordering direct or from your dealer, there's a few things that determine which way I'd go. If my dealer could offer me a price that was close to the direct price, I'd get it from my dealer.
It's not that I don't want to do business direct. It's just that a pipe is a big dollar purchase and a good way to show your loyalty to a local dealer. That's something that might pay off in the long run.
If it's obviously cheaper to by direct, then it's also a good way to show that local dealer that they are losing business due to their "rip their heads off" pricing policy.
