Best Valves, Springs, Retainers?
It seems as though more than a few people have dropped stock valves while spraying nitrous. What are the best valvetrain parts for extended high rpm use with nitrous?
I'm hoping for some feedback from you guys who really pound the hell out of your bikes.

I was looking into this too. I saw ape, muzzy and carpenter on schnitz site. The carpenters have no shim needed and I think they had titanium retainers, but should prob recheck. I havent seen any other options really at this point.

KI went back and checked it out. Its not ape, its pm springs. The carpenter set up is springs only and uses stock retainers, and no shims to get 65 lbs? on the spring.
The muzzy full kit is most expensive, 500 plus and has spings, shims and retainers. PM has the same deal, springs, retain, and shims for about 350. I wonder which is better, I hear you get what you pay for, does muzzy make their springs or contract out?

ss valves, springs, retainers: i gettum all at Kibblewhite. Great folks to deal with.

to my knowledge, APE, Muzzy, Schnitz, Carpenter are all re-sellers of valves, springs, etc. Kibblewhite makes their own valves, prolly? source the springs.

I've got Kibblewhite springs and I think its APE Ti retainers in my 1270. Its been a while since the motor was built, I dont remember on the retainers 100 percent...

when installing SS valves and heavier springs do you just lap them in with lapping compound or do you need to have a complete valve job done? Also how well do the valve seats hold up with SS valves and heavy springs?

I dont know about best......
With Kibblewhite valves and springs ive had an issue with wear.
I run stock valves now and Carpenter springs. Very happy with the springs and valve life. Ever wonder why APE installs different seats in the head?
After seeing a set of Carpenter springs you wont second guess your choice

How much nitrous are you spraying?
So, why does APE install different seats in the head?

Don't shoot me if i'm wrong, but I thing it's more of a shim to get the desired seat pressure
with a already available spring. Might ask Jay at APE to be sure.

Im spraying under 200 hp The seats in APE's head are softer than stock (in my opinion) allowing you to run aftermarket valves which are also softer than stock.

Interesting. Are you referring to the bronze seats that they sell? What is the advantage to the softer valve material?
Would you consider the stock valves suspect for continuous high-rpm (12k) usage, particularly with spray?

There is no benefit to a softer valve. I cant say what works best and what doesnt, only what works for me. I use stock valves and have been spraying ever since I started racing this bike in 01. So far (knock on wood) I havent had a valve failure at all using stock valves, good springs and retainers. Chris
