Muzzy bolt on and PCIIIR????
Just purchased this bike(2001 12r) and it came with the bolt on muzzy Ti-oval can (Kitty has been removed) and a PCIIIR still in the box pre-programmed with the map from DJ for the D&D slip-on (M204-006). Looking at other exhaust manufacturers dyno charts from their websites it sounds like a ball-park number of 8-10 hp from the bolt-on can. Does these sound about right? Maybe 165-168 RwHP? Also my main question: being that I do not run an Ign. advancer on the bike and the TPS is stock would it be safe to run HanksZX12r PCIIIr ignition map from Easyriders website with my M204-006 map? The fuel portion of my map seems pretty fat compared to almost all other maps except stock, so I'm assuming I would be safe. Also I just wanna say thanks to Cliff Randall for the on-off Fix, what a difference that made in the Drivabilty.
Is there anyone out there running a Modified stock can and a modified stock airfilter, blockoff plates, kitty removed with a PCIIIR advancing the ignition for you? The reason: That Muzzy is freaking LOUD, and would prefer a more tame sound from the stock can.

Oh BTW, I have read everything there is to read from this website and Easyriders site regarding the ignition Advance questions and nother really seems to pertain to my state of tune....Every one on this site seems to have full systems. I'm just trying to utilize what I have on the bike for now.

Got any pictures of the Muzzy bolt-on on your bike? If so can you post them?

Congrats on the ZX-12R purchase!
1) 8-10 horsepower (peak??) gain from a bolt-on muffler? This is the kind of power gain (peak) most of us see on the dyno with a full system. I wouldn't expect a bolt-on muffler to give that kind of increase, but I WOULD expect to see at least 8-10 more horsepower (maybe more?) at red line and the rev-limiter.
2) Using Hank's ignition timing will be safe (assuming you're using good-quality premium fuel). That ignition timing map was developed on a bone-stock '00 12R. Plug it in and don't worry!!

Its possible for the muffler and cat removed to gain that much hp. You can do the exact same thing with the stock exhaust and muffler too. Thats why I never understood the *slip on* mentality. Why pay $300 for something that could be done for under $10.
Full system owners typically pickup upwards of 10 or more rwhp in the upper RPM range. Thats because the ZX12 likes to rev. The other benefit from a full system (even the most inexpensive systems out) is weigh savings. Typical weight savings on the 12 is upwards of 15lbs or more. Thats like adding an extra 1-2 hp!!

Hanks map didnt work to well in my PC3r. As a matter of fact, the bike would barely run. After several tweaking sessions, Ive got it rideable, but his map isnt the cureall for every bike!!! Its better to have it mapped on a dyno for YOUR particular bike. My bike has only been tuned by riding, not on the dyno. It likes Busa meat....lol
Mine only made 160 hp at AMI....mines a pig!

Akrapovic
The dealer here is quoting a 17hp gain for the full Akrapovic Evolution titanium system for the 12.
Anyone know - bogus claim or the truth?
I agree with TurboBlew regards changing the can only...especially after what Ninjaman has been recounting regards Laidover's D&D and the 02 12.

Thanks!!!! That was pretty much what I was looking for. I took the converter out last week, and re-installed the stock can instead, and I'll modify the stock can in the future. Thanks TurboBlew. That Muzzy was way loud, I love the sound of it but If you put on about 100+ miles of freeway, it just drones in the helmet. Even with earplugs. Also If I was giving up alot of HP's for not using the bolt-on I might be able to justify leaving it on there. (thanks Red 12r rocket) I can post some pics of the Slip on at a later date TBBT.(going on vacation now).
I'm gonna copy hanks Ignition portion of his map and into mine then. Our fuel portion of the map is pretty close. I thought those advance numbers looked pretty safe. (I always run the highest octane gas I can find).
What has Ninjaman been saying about Laidovers D&D on a 02 12r? I missed that.
Anyway off to Fiji for a nice Fucking break. I really need to get away. Thanks for all the Info Guys!!!!Ride safe

FYI.....
For some reason or another the D&D Bolt-On apparently killed laidover's '02 12R. I was dissapointed in the thing BIGTIME after I rode it. I will spare you guys all the details which are posted on another thread. But in a nutshell the bike just didn't perform like a 160+ bhp bike should, even after we put the 17t front sprocket on it the thing didn't impress me.
laidover was dissapointed in it as well and decided to take it to the dealership and have them sell it for him. I posted my impressions of the '02, not trying to flame anyone or dis anyones bike. Some of the guys were telling me that their bikes didn't have any problem carrying the frontend, and that they did have the "Hit" that 160+ bhp bike did. I know that most of the guys here are pretty straight up, so I called laidover and we talked about it. The only unknown was the D&D, we knew the bike should run better than it did, especially after putting the 17t on the front. So he decided to go get his bike yesterday and do a little research.
He put the stock can on last night and it is a whole different bike according to him, and I have no reason to doubt him. I'm gonna ride it as soon as possible, hopefully this weekend. I'll post the results after I do. I guess the D&D needed a power commander.
