Advice/opinion on cams....
It's time to freshen up the 12, I'm thinking 1270 and Coby Adams headwork. Was wondering about cams since I'll be getting my ECU extended.
Who has had good gains from aftermarket cams or using an intake cam on the exhaust side?
I'm looking for some help at the street, strip and of course, Maxton.
Let me hear from you folks, I value and appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Dan

Are you BACK or Idle time in Paradise? Does Lydia know what you are doing? If you are back home, did you find out what the mystery was??

brg racing in Concord has used webcams 383/369 lift cams for the 12. He says they make about 10 h.p. on the dyno.. Try the stock lobe centers but you can also try 105.5in/100 ex or 110/102..
I have the extended ecu but I dont have the cams yet probably next winter.

my buddy swears by adjusting all the valve to the loosest parts of the spec...he also recommends a throttle body sinc every 7,500 miles.. He doesn't have any dyno numbers to quantify (which is what I like to go by) however his bike has 40,000 miles on it and its running stonger than ever.

Vincent,
Got in last night, had plenty of time on the plane to think about things and one was about getting the bike faster.
Before I left I took a leakdown on the 12 and it showed less than 3% on all cylinders, then made some pulls on the dyno (to check the borrowed ECU) and the bike still made 181+ and 99. Those are down less than 2 on hp & tq, could of been a number of variables as you know.
Bike is still tight but I'm getting that need for a few more ponies. Really hate to tear into a perfectly good running bike but these boys of mine are cleaning my clock!!!!!
I'll be calling you tomorrow.
Anymore input from you folks on cams?
Thanks,
Dan
Supra....
Thanks for the reply, I'll check into them. I have my stock cams on 105/100 and have been pleased with those settings.

Kawboy, may I suggest that you go for something "lighter" with the same HP?

The Web cams are milder than the Muzzy's or do I have that backward?
Also, I had thought Mr Hill had warned about durability of Web cams for watercooled Kawasakis?

Ra12r,
Both of my sons have 10's and I love them.......for about 20 minutes. At 50 years plus and 200 lbs. plus, I have something with a little more comfort and wind protection for those pesky top speeds runs.
I do realize that light weight = more horsepower and agree with your thinking!
Thanks,
Dan

Yea it was his son Zack's 10R that sold me on buying one. It slaughtered one of my 12's with ease. We then switched bikes to even out the weight disadvantage that I have over him and ended up with the same results. I now own a 10R.
Dan you need to ride my 10 with the Heli's on it. It's a world of difference.

for Old kaw boy I believe that Doug Meyer ran a 1270 with 2.5 degrees of advance, with 105.5/100 lobe centers. He got 202 horsepower at like 11,400 rpm..

Okay suggestion #2.... Seeing that if you do everything you have written plus about that many more once you get started and are still low on HP, you will have spent more than half the price of the zx14. Based on the released photo's, I am begining to see that they are marketing a "Quicker" bike for performance. This is what I think might be a good response rather than more money into a "discontinued bike". (Dang that sucks)

If you are getting a Coby head, get his cams to go with it. He will tell you what to degree them at.

i have been running the webs on a stock head and 1270 for a while. i have no complaints. the bike has dynoed over 200 hp with a throttle body bore and stacks. it runs 5.80's in 1/8 it has been 1 hellava machine with the setup. the muzzy 1270 is good the web cams are good. muzzy didnt have them when i got mine. if they had i would have them. i started spraying lately and dropped a valve because of the stock springs. now i got a muzzy bigblock to go back with and a carpenter head. i cant wait!!!!!!

I picked up about 9 horse with the second intake cam in the exhaust side and 1 mm oversize exhaust valves. I did it for the nitrous set up I have, but I picked up noticible power on motor as well. Job isn't trivial because the cam timing is done off the exhaust cam, but its worth the effort if you have some intake cams lying around.

I was trying to optimize for spray, so I had the two "intake" cams set at 106 / 102. You want the exhaust opened earlier on a spray motor. I lost nothing in midrange after proper tuning. You have to do some work to get the cam position sensor rotor to fit on the end of an intake cam, and there was some minor cam clearance issues with the head, but nothing a long winter and some beer can't take care of. The Busa guys put the intake cams on the exhaust side all the time.
