I crashed my bike last night.

Before you hear it from somewhere else I thought I'd let you know I crashed my motorcycle last night. I was rounding a curve and lost sight for a few seconds and went into a grass median. I thought I was going to be ok and pointed it towards the concrete median that started at the end of the grass before the intersection to get back up on the road, but there was a big step to get up on the concrete and when I hit it that I flipped the bike and slid. I've got road rash in a couple of spots, every joint in my back and legs hurts, my jaw feels like I've been punched and is swollen, and my heel hurts for some reason but no broken bones or any serious problems. The bike is pretty wasted. Bike Week hasn't turned out the way I was hoping it would but when I think about it could have been much much worse. I'm supposed to be on vacation until the 15th but it looks like it will be recovering instead. It was totally my fault and that's what makes it worse. I have a friend down visiting for the week and his week got screwed because I screwed up which sucks too. He's being very cool about it but I still feel bad for him. This is my first crash and hopefully my last.

Ride safe (maybe I should listen to my own advice)

Dave

I'm glad you're ok.........

Dave ,
I know exactly how you feel man. I wiped out on a gap trip in September 2000 the first day we were there. I was lucky as well, and sustained no serious injuries, just road rash and a lot of bruises. I felt like I'd been ran over by a train, but knew I was lucky to walk away. I messed up the trip for my buddy that was with me, he'd never even ridden in the mountains and we'd planned the trip for months. It was over with before it really even got started. We unloaded our gear, got the bikes off the trailer, and decided to head out to go get some grub. Fifteen minutes into the ride I had brain fart and lowsided at 70 mph. It sucked. But take it from me it'll all get better in time.

It makes you see things in a different light after things like that happen. I could have dwelled on all the negative stuff, but I chose to look at the bright side of it. I walked away, lived to ride another day, and got to mend in the comfort of my own home, and still be here for my wife and baby boy.

I do hate it about your bike, but hey that's what insurance is for. I'm just glad you aren't hurt any worse than you are. Keep your chin up Dave, you've got a lot to be happy about.

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THIS!

Like everyone else, I'm happy the injuries are no worse then what they are. Sorry about the bike, Bike Week, your visiting friend, your vacation and ESPECIALLY for your family! Now they gotta "baby" you more then they already do! Don't get used to it (as if you'd want to)!

Glad you're okay!

Dave, Melissa and I are so sorry to hear you went down, but we sure are glad you'll be okay. Keep positive about everything, and don't be hard on yourself. We know you are a great rider and a great guy and it sucks when bad things happen to good people. If we can do anything for you just holler! Mark and Melissa

G E T W E L L S O O N ! ! !

Glad you are A-O-K (for the most part). You must be a pretty decent rider because I know from experience that the 12 doesn't like staying up in grass. At all.

Here's an idea...

Dave, how 'bout we all chip in and rent you a Gold Wing trike for a couple of weeks?

Just a thought. I hear they wheelie pretty good.

Here is another thought: When you fix your bike, order the blue bodywork! Or, if it is totaled, just get a 2002 blue one!

Just trying to look on the bright side for you.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. I did get a ride in an ambulance to the ER and had my head x-rayed and the road rash scrubbed out and patched up. I'll tell you that's not fun. Here's a few shots of the damage.

I hate that Dave. I've been there and done that man. Bikes can be replaced, but you can't. I'm glad you are ok.
BTW..The bike doesn't look all the bad....well..at least compared to mine. It was broken in half. :-(

Get back up on the horse that threw you and show it who's boss.
