Splitting the case...

...and resealing it.

Kawi manual says "Sealant - Three bond 1207B"

I see three different sealant type things on Ron Ayers. Which do I need, and how much. I'm sure there's some generic brand or type I can use, but I want to make sure it's right the FIRST time, lol.

Thanks.

Yamabond. Available at your local yamaha shop. It's much better than the kawi stuff. IMO.

Three bond is vastly superior to most automotive silicones. I work at a GM dealer as a tech, and use GM's black hi-temp silicone on a regular basis, but on the Duramax engine we have to use Isuzu Three Bond (which I assume is the same as the Kawi three bond). There is a huge difference between them. GM silicone will simply pry apart when removing a sealed component (a valve cover as an example), but with three bond you almost have to cut the surfaces apart, which is a good sign of the adhesion of the sealer. The only reason why we don't use that stuff all the time is the cost (about 10X the cost of GM stuff). Applied properly, three bond will never leak. The same thing cannot be said about hi-temp rtv silicone, however our bike cases are a pretty forgiving set of sealing surfaces, simply from the fact that both pieces of aluminium have the same rate of expansion. A less forgiving surface, as an example, is a steel engine block and aluminium intake manifold. The shearing effect of different rates of expansion creates a pile of stress on the silicone, and unless it is top notch stuff, will fail after several hundred or thousand heat cycles

permatex brand, sorry failed to mention that

canada: to get the engine cases apart with the permatex you have to use big prybar

scared me first time, but i think it'll work fine for the bike engine. so far no troubles.

Just dont use too much, a common mistake in all types of engine building. The excess sealant can clog your pickup screen quickly and do more damage than a leak ever could!

For cases-
Always Three Bond 1211, Yamabond in an emergency. Use as little as you think you can get away with, then USE EVEN LESS. NEVER use commercial RTV.
1211 is the white stuff- 1107 is the semi drying grey (don't use that). I'm not sure what 1207 is 'cause I only use the 1211.

there are several 1207's the B is the black stuff that Suzuzki and kawi uses the "C" is what Nissan uses and is Orange and it takes the place of a gasket (example oil pan or clutch)and you can put it on while still dripping
