Doug Meyer or Kevin To Degalze or not??
My engine has 7,000 miles and you can see all of the original Cross Hatch marks on the cylinder walls. I was told that John Noonan suggested installing the pistons and rings without running a hone through the cylinders by Jim Owens and his bike runs very good.
Any Ideas here? Should I Hone using fine (like 600 or a little coarser like 320 Grit)? I have never put an engine together without running a hone a few trips through the cylinder to get a fresh Cross Hatch.
I am putting it together tonight. (CC The Compression "TDC BDC" to get the exact compression ratio) and using hollow core lead solder to check the piston to head and valve clearances through the spark plug hole.

I have a bore hone brush sent to us by Millenium, just run it through a couple times, that's what I would do.

Vince-
Assuming the bores are undamaged, unless you have the correct hone (which you don't) just put it together. We recommend very light wipe of oil on the bores "period". Upon initial startup be very aware of engine temp and don't let it overheat. THe most important factor here is bleeding and burping the system to make sure there is good flow right away.

Doug The internal Mic looks good but this think about the Hone? Let us not go assuming! If you are referring to the bore Hone that has the 2 metal plates and 2 stone sides and different Grades of stones that I use after boreing Steel cylinders to size to fit the pistons. If this is the one, then I have access to a set. If there is something just for plated cylinders that is entirely different, then No I do not "Now" have access to one.
My question is, what is the "Correct" Hone to have and if I did, should I run it through the Bores lightly with Varsol to remove any imperfections in the Bore size?

Vince, what I have it commonly referred to as a bottle brush, it's very soft, Millenium sent it to us, it is used to lightly clean up the cylinders on nikasil plated bores. Let me know if you want to borrow, they sent it to Nick at the shop for free to use on my rebuild.
