Muzzy sells a repack kit that's real easy to install. All you have to do is

1. Use an allen wrench to remove the end cap screws and pull off the end cap.
2. Remove any remaining packing and the metal screen tube that is inside the canister.
3. The new packing kit will come with a new screen tube and the packing will be wrapped around it, covered with a clear plastic wrap.
4. Install the kit WITH the clear plastic still wrapped around the packing.
5. Reinstall the end cap, aligning it with the screen tube.
6. For the first couple of rides, it might smoke a bit while the clear plastic is melted away. This is normal.

All of it can be done in less than 15 minutes.

Muzzy reccommends replacing the packing about every 5,000 miles. Never run a Carbon Fiber cansiter without the proper amount of packing. Actually, it's not to your benefit to run any kind of canister without packing. Though some might think it sounds cool, it robs you of anywhere from 3 to 5 HP.

YCIS, mine's an oval CF and I stupidly assumed it would be just as easy (if not easier) on a round can. What's up with the round cans and repacking them?

You guys obviously haven't done one in a while. There's nothing to it with the new poly wrapping. Don't be frightened, men.

MM, you repacked one WITH the polywrap OR did you NOT READ the instructions and took the wrap off? Needless to say that haveing done it both ways, you couldn't pay me enough to do it the "old school" way.

As for packing one WITH the polywrap, I'll tell you guys what... ya'll can send all your Muzzy canisters to me and I'll repack them for you for less than $50 each. That's INCLUDING the price of the packing itself. Even with the number of "smoke breaks" I take while working on my bike, I can still do it in less than 15 minutes.

Since the wrapped packing has been around for a while, if anyone out there hasn't repacked the Muzzy with the polywrap... your canister is LOOOOONG overdue for a repacking!

Mike, if you read the directions, you aren't supposed to take the packing out of the bag. The polypropolene goes away first time you start up the bike. So the correct procedure is to just lay out the bag, take the inner pipe and lay it on top of it, wrap the bag around the pipe and stick it back in the muffler. Bolt everything back together and you are done.

Heh...I got a bag full o crap....there is NO WAY IN HELL that bag would fit into the round aluminum canister....no amount of ramming with a screwdriver...long file...drill bits...etc...got that packing in far enough.

The ONLY way it would fit was to remove it from the wrapping..and stuff it in bit by bit...using a long flathead screwdriver to get it in. Once removed from the bag...experience was the same as mikes.

One and only time Ill do that.
